Shame on 41 House Republicans
March 3, 2002
by Chris Lilik
Shame on United States House Representatives Ose, Horn, Bono, Simmons,
Shays, Johnson, Castle, Foley, Ros-Lehtinen, Kirk, Johnson, Ganske, Leach,
Gilchrest, Morella, Upton, Smith, Ramstad, Bereuter, Osborne, Bass, LoBiondo,
Ferguson, Frelinghuysen, Grucci, Gilman, Boehlert, McHugh, Walsh, Quinn,
Houghton, LaTourette, Weldon, Greenwood, Platts, Graham, Thune, Wamp,
Wolf, Capito, and Petri. All 41 of these Republican fools voted in favor
of H.R. 2356, the unconstitutional Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform
bill, which seriously endangers all Americans right to free speech.
Come on guys, trampling on the First Amendment is something we would
have expected out of leftwing Democrats like Dick Gephart, Maxine Waters,
or Jerrold Nadler, or an admitted socialist like Bernie Sanders of Vermont,
but this is ridiculous! The bill was so bad 12 Democrats didnt even
vote for it!
What in Ronald Reagans name were you guys thinking?

Censorship, Robbery, and Threats at U.C. Berkeley
$1600 in publications stolen from Republican office; Police Investigating
For Immediate Release - Chris Lilik
February 27, 2002
Early on the morning of Tuesday, February 26th, approximately $1600 worth
of a conservative student publication, The California Patriot,
was stolen when the office of the Berkeley College Republicans was broken
into.
On Tuesday, members of the California Patriot and Berkeley College Republicans
filed two separate police reports with the UCPD. The first report concerns
verbal threats that were made on Sproul Plaza and is classified as a hate
crime and the second concerns the break-in and theft of the publications.
On Wednesday, the UC police department opened an investigation into both
incidents and began interviewing possible witnesses.
Evidence suggests that students affiliated with the student group MEChA
are responsible for these thefts. MEChA, a Mexican-American student group
on campus, was highly dissatisfied with an article released in the February
2002 California Patriot that exposed their mission statement. This
statement discusses the gringo invasion of our territories,
and advocated the reclamation of the American Southwest for those of Aztec
heritage.
Members of the California Patriot and Berkeley College Republicans
are publicly demanding that the perpetrators of these crimes be held accountable
and brought to justice.
In a joint statement submitted to the Daily Californian, Kelso
Barnett, the publisher of the Patriot, and Robb McFadden, president
of the Berkeley College Republicans, prodded the administration to act
aggressively: We call upon Chancellor Berdahl and his administration
to pursue individuals who undermine free speech through actions that violate
state law and campus regulations both now and in the future. This
sort of felonious conduct should not be tolerated, and we feel that it
is the Universitys responsibility to make this a safe academic environment
for all students and all perspectives.
The Patriot has promised to reprint the issue once it raises enough
money. Both groups are vowing to press charges if and when suspect(s)
are identified.
