What Makes Things Alive?

I recently saw an article in New Scientist magazine, asking the question “What makes things alive?” The authors don’t believe in God, so they have to come to another conclusion. They were, however, struggling to do so. They understand that inanimate matter can’t just start to breathe and reproduce unless “something” happens. In their attempt to get around the problem they used the terms “magic”, “something special” and a “new type of physics” to explain what causes a “thing” to become alive.
 
From the beginning, Satan has tried to invalidate what God says. Just as in the garden of Eden, he questioned God’s instructions to Adam when he tempted Eve with “Has God indeed said” sly remarks (Genesis 3:1); he does the same today via secular philosophy;

• “The universe created itself.”
• “All life evolved from a common ancestor.”
• “Life started in the oceans and after millions of years, crawled onto land.”
• “Mankind is just an advanced, evolved animal.”

All of these widely spread falsehoods have one theme in common. They are designed to steal God’s credit for His creation and deny His very existence. Secular scientists trying to redefine what it means to be alive are simply continuing the trend.
 
The Bible clearly tells us in Genesis that God created mankind from the dust of the ground and when he was finished He breathed into him the breath of life. (Genesis 2:7). This clearly explains why we have the same atoms inside us as are found in the earth. Likewise, God created all other forms of life we see today. All plants, animals, sea life, and microscopic bacteria were created and given life by God.
 
Biologists categorize something as being alive if it has the following characteristics: the organism can reproduce, harness energy, respond to stimuli, and grow and develop. Biblical creationist and secular biologists all agree on this. The disagreement comes in as to “how life began” and this new twist “what is life” as they realize the more they understand about life, the more complex and wonderful it is. However, instead of looking to God for answers, secular scientists continue to search for a non-spiritual answer. As the New Scientist article proclaims. “The question of what gives life the distinctive oomph that sets it apart has long stumped researchers, despite dazzling advances in biology in recent decades.”
  
Romans 1: 18 – 20, tells us that from the beginning of time, creation, the natural world, and the universe in which we live, has testified of God’s existence. Furthermore Romans 1:21 – 22 clearly states “because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools”.
 
Secular scientists are fools in the eyes of God because they know better. They understand that the theory of macroevolution can’t work, but they refuse to acknowledge Him as creator. Most secular biology and science classes do likewise as they indoctrinate young minds against the truth of the Gospel and God as creator by teaching molecules-to-man as truth.
 
The Bible is very clear: God created all life. Real science and genetics confirm this. Searching for other answers, because one can’t accept that a supernatural God created life, is futile and foolish.
