Make Washington D.C. the 50th State with a Simple Swap

Washington D.C. wants to become the 51st State to enter the Union. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office evidently commissioned the production of 140 American flags, with 51 stars. 

For those of you in Rio Linda (h/t: Rush Limbaugh), our flag has but 50 stars, representing the 50 current States. (You never know who will read this) 

The 140 flags were strategically placed along Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and Capitol Hill to celebrate the upcoming hearing. 

“The hearing, planned for Thursday, will be the first full committee hearing on a District statehood bill since 1993,” writes the Washington Examiner. 

Personally, I wouldn’t support such an initiative, just on the mere observation of who is in favor it. Leftist groups like the ACLU, and co-sponsors like Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Tom Carper of Delaware. Anything that garners this much support from leftists is no good for America. You can bank on that. 

A good general guideline is that no one need know anything about any bill to reject it with this bunch supporting it. 

But I have an idea, in lieu of immediate rejection. One that I think makes much practical and economic sense. And it’s a win-win. The Dems get a new State and we conservatives get what we’ve wished for decades. 

I, for one, don’t want to have to go out and buy all new American flags, or Velcro an extra star on the ones I own. That would just be a hassle. 

So instead of that hassle, why don’t we suggest a swap, as it were? 

Republicans and conservatives (not necessarily synonymous) agree to accept D.C. as a State if America is allowed to jettison California – just revoke its Statehood and replace it with the State of Washington D.C. 

I mean, it is time – is it not? 

California has proven, year after year, that it just wishes to do its own thing. Why can’t the American people finally grant it its wish? 

With each passing year, they unpin themselves further from the Constitution of the United States, passing laws that clearly subvert the national Constitution. They completely ignore the fact that the US Constitution is the supreme law of the land. 

If they think they can build a better mousetrap, and evidently they do – why don’t we finally let them?

Whoever we accept as a new State, will in no way be as harmful to the United States as has been California. Practically every insane leftist idea that has befallen our nation, has begun and germinated in California. 

They are utterly hostile and have a complete disregard for our nation’s border and national law enforcement like border agents and ICE. 

They celebrate having the highest population of illegal aliens residing in California, where they provide free education, free healthcare, and drivers licenses to the estimated 1.5 to 2.2 million.    

They continue to pass demonstrably unconstitutional gun laws, like a statewide “assault” weapons ban and a myriad of other restrictions. 

They ban everything of convenience, like plastic bags, plastic straws and have, this year, proposed a ban on ALL single-use plastic products by 2030. 

They are all aboard the gender-bending train, blacklisting several States (and counting), by way of travel bans, because these backward States refuse to spend taxpayer money, via Medicaid, on gender transition surgery. Oh, the horror! 

Frankly, I could continue for the balance of the week, quoting all the over-the-top wacky crap going on in California, but I won’t anger you further. 

So rather deny the postage stamp size Washington D.C. statehood, with its two Senators and one Congressperson, let’s just swap them out. 

D.C. would be thrilled and California could go off and do whatever the hell they want to do, without fear of federal reprisal or interference. 

However, Trump will have to extend his border barrier project quite a bit to include the entire eastern border of the new nation of California, because all Californians will have to immigrate into the new and improved United States, as well as negotiating a trade deal with the new country. 

Despite being overall the most spectacular state in the Union, I think most real Americans would not shed a tear over its departure.
