"Stiff Right Jab"
Hallelujah Republicans: Relieving "Their" Conscience With "Your" Money

The radical leftist World Health Organization is beside itself. And why not? Another fussy old right wing hard-liner has lifted his eyes toward Heaven, seen the light, been scolded for his sins, repented, and returned to Earth resolved henceforth and forever - or at least until retirement - to join hands in “The Fellowship of the Third Way,” and to do so in its newest and potentially widest field of labor, “International Compassionate Conservatism.”

Indeed.

So who’s the most recent convert to Compassionate Conservatism? North Carolina, Republican Jesse Helms - until recently, the consummate conservative. And what’s his mission call? To relieve his conscience by saving the world from AIDS with your money, via:

  • The anti-large family, pro abortion, pro coercive abortion, pro involuntary sterilization, and pro-Marxist, Agency for International Development.

  • The anti-gun, pro-homosexuality, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • And the anti-xenophobia, pro-condom, Global AIDS Fund - a new Third Way public private partnership.

It just doesn’t get any better, any worse than this!

As announced in a Sunday, March 24 op-ed by Senator Helms, he and Senator Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), come April 8th, plan to introduce legislation that would add $500 million to the U.S. contribution to prevent and deter AIDS in Africa and other parts of the developing world - this to be offered as an amendment to the Bush Administration’s pending request for additional money for Afghan war related concerns and homeland security.

Helms explaining his remarkable conversion to International Compassionate Conservatism, writes:

"Some say that this initiative is not consistent with some of my earlier positions." But he continued, "in the end our conscience is answerable to God. Perhaps, in my 81st year, I am too mindful of soon meeting Him, but I know that, like the Samaritan traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho, we cannot turn away when we see our fellow man in need."

Well, perhaps an old dog can be taught new tricks, but then again, that’s all Compassionate Conservatism is, a trick, not a true religious manifestation, not true compassion. So here’s a four point message for compassionate conservatives regarding their solution for AIDS.

  1. There are more sensible, freedom protecting solutions out there. It’s true enough that AIDS needs to be eradicated. So why not hit the nail on the head by promoting a world-wide campaign through churches and schools in favor of the benefits of chastity before marriage, and fidelity within marriage? And why not wake-up the world about homosexuality, that it is against nature, and a daunting public health risk?

This approach takes courage, but it is honest, less expensive, and less intrusive. It wisely relegates the federal government’s role to be nothing more than a voice of reason, rather than an advocate, nay, a dictator in favor of debauched behavior. Further, no longer would the taxpayer be forced to encourage and then provide "safety nets" for deviant behaviors their religious faiths denounce.

  2. Set true lessee-faire free, so as to provide better, cheaper medical solutions for those already infected. If compassion is the object, then why not rid our country of the anti-free enterprise FDA, thus freeing up billions of investment dollars, thus speeding up innovative drug research, thus bringing down the price for the infected, thus eliminating an imposed burden on taxpayers?

  3. Let the federal government do its constitutional duty and protect US patents against communist “free trade” robbers, thus protecting rewards for the aforementioned entrepreneurship. If compassionate conservatives wish for investors to step forward, they must protect patents. Withdrawing from the pro-patent robbing WTO would be a good starting point.

  4. Stop misapplying the teachings of Christianity in order to bring moral authority to your "civil society." You seek personal and national salvation by robbing from the rich to give to the poor, by robbing from the healthy to give to the sickly. But what of the Good Samaritan story? How was it that this injured man ended up by the wayside in the first place? Wasn’t he robbed!? And as for the Good Samaritan who helped him out; wasn’t he one who "chose" to help out his fellow man, one who "felt" compassion, not one who had compassion jammed down his throat by big government?

And so last of all, compassionate conservatives, answer this: Is legalized theft and forced service Christian compassion, or secular communism? And if communism, will compassionate conservatism ultimately elevate or depress the human condition, will it ultimately defend or denounce true Good Samaritanism? An honest answer and a corresponding courageous action, just might indeed, save our personal and national soul.

Action Corner:

Senator Helms will be introducing his amendment on Monday, April 8th. E-mail Senator Helms, Senator Frist, your own Senator, and opinion molders to let them know how you feel.
