A Letter to Tom De Lay and the RCC

Dear Tom De Lay and the Republication Congressional Committee,

Thank you for the opportunity to help keep Congress in your hands this year. I am confident you will succeed, and I consider it disastrous for everyone if you fail.

As you know, I have pledged a fraction of what you asked.I can pledge much more. Like many Republicans, I am upset by some of the compromises made by your colleagues and I’m protesting. I’m sure you’re aware that when people donate to something that has been frustrating for them, they are going to want the opportunity to fix the perceived problems. I’m no exception to this.

To receive the difference between what I want to donate and what I donate today, you must do one, some or all of the items below. They are all supportive of the goals you stated in your fund-raising letter.

One. Reform the Airport Security Federalization Act of 2001, H.R.3150. Federalizing the baggage screeners was a terrible mistake. Those 28,000 screeners are unionized now - you know how they will vote. The difficulty involved in firing any of them, under any circumstance, will make the Act worthless. Was this thought to be a harmless compromise? By who? Why do Republicans consistently do things like this?

Two. Republican campaign managers should take California more seriously. Our senate representation is a joke. Our statewide office-holders are a joke. The Fong race in 1998 was a joke, and the Campbell race in 2000 was a joke. I’m supposed to have three federal legislators who will have some interest in hearing what I have to say. In fact, I only have John Doolittle - thank goodness for him.

Three. Repeal or reform Motor Voter. Some new voters currently can’t be asked about their citizenship status. This is a travesty. Evidently, Republicans believe they’ll get more Hispanic votes by ignoring vote fraud. Mister De Lay, that premise is an insult to Hispanics and not representative of any party that will get more of my dollars. Democrats are receiving the illegal votes - they will not stop this. It is up to Republicans to uphold the law. Illegal immigrants should not vote. See U.S. Border Control, http://www.usbc.org/media/voting.htm.

Four. Declare war this year on fraudulent voting, in all forms. Nobody seriously believes any of the problems that lead to Bush/Gore 2000 are fixed. The illegitimate votes are not distributed symmetrically between democrats and Republicans. Everyone knows democrats are benefiting from it, and nobody seems to have the guts to say so.

Five. Vigorously oppose skin color quotas for hiring and college admissions. This is a sure winner for you. I see no widespread public support for reverse-discrimination. Become our anti-quota party again, and people will vote for you in droves.

Six. Pass a House Resolution recognizing that the Second Amendment, like everything in the Bill Of Rights, defines a right expressly granted to the people and not to the state. That’s just common sense and there is no political, intellectual or moral reason not to do this.

Seven. Instead of sitting on your laurels and watching the democrats trot out their biannual drivel about the "wealthiest one percent," why don’t you put a monkey wrench in the works and point out a few things about what’s really going on. You look ineffectual and lazy when you let your opposition steal this pulpit. See The Evil One Percent, S. Moore, http://www.nationalreview.com/balance/balance101300.shtml; In Defense of the Wealthiest One Percent, R. Tracinski, http://www.capitalismmagazine.com/2001/february/rwt_defense_wealth.htm; Who Pays What?, N. Boortz, http://www.boortz.com/taxstats.htm. Democrats drive their cause with the worst of human nature when they use class envy; in so doing, they give you ammunition, and I don’t see you using it. Use It Or Lose It. Take it from this strictly middle-class, paycheck-to-paycheck voter. Cutting taxes on the wealthy, to plagiarize Trancisky, "is the right thing to do." Tell us all why it is right.

Eight. Put a jaundiced eyeball on Bush’s $2.12 trillion budget for 2003. Keep the defense and security items, hack away viciously at the rest. Pressure democrats, Medicare pimps and poverty pimps to throttle back on their pet social programs so that we can fight the war on terrorism. Do it now, not later. No federal budget should be this large, and if the pork can’t be cut now, it can’t be cut ever.

The money I promised to you is enclosed. You have a decision to make. Get by with this initial contribution and continue to ignore the problems that jeopardize your majority in Congress. That would essentially nullify the effect of this contribution. In that case, I will write you off and split my next donation between the United States Border Control and the NRA so that the democrat-led 108th Congress can be lobbied properly. Or, put my donation to good use, uphold the law, do the right thing, and in so doing save our Congress. This would certainly repeat what you did eight years ago; it would earn from me a larger donation - along with the respect of millions of voters just like me.

Sincerely,

Morgan K. Freeberg
Voter, California 4th Congressional District
