Global Warming and Dr. Watson
Re: Global Waffling, Editorial, April 4, 2002.
There appear to be reasons not to reinstate Dr. Robert Watson, other
than The Bee’s ssuggestion that "Bush apparently can’t cope with" the Doctor’s
dire warnings about Global Warming.
The Senior Scientist at the World Bank
has much of the resumé you’d expect from a Clinton nominee. He has a
significant interest in the Carter/Gore "World Is Ending And Humans Are To
Blame" credo; perhaps even a financial interest. He seems to be heavily
tainted by the "245-to-1" scandal involving flawed models of the environment
being selected with a heavy bias for political reasons. See
Global Warming: Watson Indulges in Scare Tactics... Again in Objective Science.
If we do have a Global Warming problem, the President probably has a
responsibility to do something about it. On the other hand, if scaremongers
are engaged in a coordinated effort to destroy our economy, which seems more
likely to be the case, the President has a duty to protect us from those
scaremongers.
Like Clinton who appointed him, Dr. Watson has a history of
sometimes not quite telling the whole truth. Is he to be defended the way
Clinton was defended? Should we ignore his deceptions because what he
lied about is "none of our business"?
