The Fall of the Last Oslo Domino

  1. The loud thud you heard yesterday was the collapse of the very last pillar of delusion about the Oslo "peace process".

Yesterday, the delusion that Ehud Barak’s cowardice had produced peace on Israel’s northern border was busted to smithereens.

It was less than two years ago when Ehud Barak signed a unilateral capitulation on Israel’s border with Lebanon. Israel had had troops stationed in Lebanon for many years. These had entered because Lebanon had been used as a base for terrorist incursions into Israel and for shelling over decades. Israel had repeatedly invaded Lebanon to attack Palestinian and Shi’ite terrorists, and eventually set up its "security zone" there in alliance with the mainly Christian Southern Lebanese Army. It was one of the few serious attempts Israel ever made to use the method now being implemented by the Americans in Afghanistan, to set up a friendly ("puppet"?) government in enemy territory. It is working wonderfully in Afghanistan.

When Barak took office, the Hizbollah terrorists were miles away from the Israeli border. When people spoke about Hizbollah terrorist infiltration, they meant into the security zone of southern Lebanon, which the terrorists were quite likely to leave in coffins. True, they attacked Israeli military posts and occasionally shelled civilian areas in northern Israel, firing over the security zone to hit Israel. But this was simply a reflection of the reluctance and pusillanimousness of Israel’s leaders. Israel’s leaders could have ended the Hizbollah violence at any time by using a more determined response and by leveling the villages of the Hizbollah, but - as always - they put worry about this week’s shouts by the anti-Jewish media ahead of Israel’s national interests. Had the Hizbollah villages been converted into parking lots, there would be no Hizbollah today and the world would have long forgotten those "crimes" of Israeli "aggression". Moreover, everyone knew and everyone knows that the Hizbollah is merely a surrogate for Syria. Israel could have silenced the Hizbollah at any time by taking military action against its puppet masters in Damascus.

Barak had come into office as Prime Minister on a platform of "bringing the boys home" from Lebanon. Israelis were convinced that a situation where two soldiers a week on average were being killed in firefights with the Hizbollah in Lebanon was intolerable, and so ended up swapping it for a situation where 30 Jewish civilians a week - including many children - would be murdered in Israeli cities.

With great fanfare, Barak announced "victory" and then ordered a capitulation. A few thousand Hizbollah terrorists had defeated what had once been one of the great military forces of the world. The IDF was routed, and withdrew in cowardice at Barak’s orders. It withdrew under fire while the Hizbollah terrorists, the ones Barak swore would live in peace with Israel because all of its demands were being met, accompanied the capitulation with a hail of fire. In these pages, we named this Israel’s Monty Python version of Dunkirk.

In the rush to surrender to the Hizbollah, Barak did not even bother to remove the heavy IDF military equipment there nor the military computers full of sensitive intelligence. Even worse, Barak completed sold out the Southern Lebanese Army members, people who had served themselves and Israel’s interests for years.

The Hizbollah moved its troops and its rockets right up to the border. It opened up the Arab Disneyland, consisting of positions from which tourists could stand and throw garbage and rocks with impunity at Israel troops just inside Israel’s borders, with no fear of response from them; they were under orders from Barak to cower. Among the rock-throwing tourists was Edward Said. The Hizbollah rockets now had all of northern Israel in their sites, down to and including the Haifa refineries.

The capitulation to the Hizbollah was based on the now familiar doctrine of "No More Reason to Fight". The doctrine goes like this. Once Israel has withdrawn from all of Lebanon, the Hizbollah will take up quilting. For the simple reason that they will no longer have any reason to fight Israel. They will have obtained everything they wanted. They will have no further claims on Israel. And besides, they know that if they do any mischief they will face ferocious responses from a united Israel convinced at last of Israel’s righteousness in responding to their aggressions. Stop laughing.

The only problem with the "No More Reason to Fight" doctrine is that it is completely wrong. The Arab fascists were never fighting to get Israel to remove itself from southern Lebanon. They were fighting to get Israel to remove itself from Israel. For decades BEFORE Israel occupied southern Lebanon, it was used for shelling and terrorist aggression against Israel. In contrast with the "No More Reason to Fight" doctrine.

Barak’s cowardice had been largely triggered by the street protests of Far-Left defeatist groups, in particular the whiny "Four Mothers". This was a group demanding total immediate instant capitulation on the Lebanese border to prevent any more soldiers from being hurt there. Among its early leaders was one communist named Dr. Shaul Sadka, who later went on to set up Israel’s main pro-Saddam lobby group. (I am not joking.) The very same "Four Mothers" last week set up a new protest group to replicate their success in forcing the defeat of Israel in Lebanon, and are now demanding instant immediate unconditional capitulation to the PLO and "withdrawal" from the West Bank and Gaza with all settlements removed. When asked what will happen when the new PLO state uses its territories as bases to shell Israel within the Green Line and send in squads of terrorist murderers to attack Israeli children, the Four Mothers and their ilk assure everyone that this could not possibly happen. The Palestinians will no longer have any reason to attack Jews. They will have their own state and half of Jerusalem. They will have No More Reason to Fight. Trust us.

Now amidst the uncountable acts of stupidity of Barak and the rest of the Oslo Cult, no doubt the very stupidest of all was the treatment of the Christian militiamen of the Southern Lebanese Army. Not only did Barak abandon them to the tender mercies of the Hizbollah, but the Israeli Left then launched a jihad of vilification against these very same people. Now I would ask you to imagine what would happen if Americans had launched a campaign to denounce all those Germans and Japanese who had assisted the United States in World War II, who had provided intelligence and helped defeat fascism, where the Americans after the war would denounce these people as traitors to their own nations. But I have no doubt you could not imagine such an absurdity.

Yet that is PRECISELY what the Israeli Left perpetrated. It demanded that the Southern Lebanese militiamen be demonized and snubbed, it denounced them as traitors to their own peoples, as treasonous collaborators with evil (that evil being Israel), as human garbage. The Left demanded that they be refused sanctuary and assistance in Israel, that their children be barred from attending Israeli Arab schools. These are the people whose "crimes" in the "minds" of the Left were that they helped prevent murders of Jews by Arab terrorists. And for these crimes they must be persecuted and punished. They were not genuine Arabs; after all, genuine Arabs murder Jewish children.

Aside from the absurdity and injustice of the campaign of filth by the Left, this farce also served as warning for all other Arabs, including Palestinians who might be of a mind to promote peace by helping Israel prevent terrorist atrocities. The message was clear. Any Arabs assisting Israel would be abandoned by Israel and vilified by Israel’s beautiful people, the Oslo Left. And of course since Israeli Arabs cannot be expected to be less anti-Semitic than the Jewish Left, these will also demonize and persecute any such Arab "collaborators". It also means that when inevitably Israel will be forced to re-enter southern Lebanon, it will do so after having itself destroyed its own intelligence networks there and with no chance at all of erecting a Southern Lebanese version of the Afghan Northern Alliance.

Now in spite of everything said, most Israelis were still living under the delusion that Barak and his lemmings had "succeeded" in resolving the problems of the Lebanese border. The boys had come home and were safe to be murdered by the PLO. After all, despite the warnings by Your Curmudgeon and similar skeptics, the Lebanese border was relatively quiet. True, the Hizbollah had kidnapped four Israelis, who may or may not have been later murdered by them, and sometimes they fired into Israel, claiming they were shooting at Israeli jets who had "violated" Lebanese air space. But the body count was close to zero. Of course this was a delusion. Saying that Barak’s cowardice had succeeded in Lebanon was like saying on Sept. 10, 2001 that the United States is immune to terrorist attack.

It should have been obvious to anyone with eyes in their heads that Barak’s cowardice would sooner or later produce a new and far bloodier confrontation with the Hizbollah terrorists. I admit it - I thought it would have been a lot sooner. I was wrong, but only in matters of timing.

The Hizbollah was already involved with the Hamas, was training suicide bombers and had people who had infiltrated into the PLO Reichlet zones. Even worse, Barak’s cowardice had emboldened the PLO. After proving to all that low-level terrorism can force the Jews to flee, Arafat was convinced that the same tactics would work for the Palestinians. One of the best ways to explain Arafat’s spitting on Barak at Camp David and then launching the "Al-Aqsa Intifada" bloodbath is that Arafat had simply been convinced by Israel’s cowardice that he could get everything he wanted with low-level warfare and terrorist atrocities. After all, Barak had agreed to EVERYTHING the Hizbollah demanded. Everything!! And he was clearly inclined to grant the PLO almost everything as well. A few months of atrocities and he’d be ready to capitulate and sign Israel’s surrender.

Lynn Livna and her teenage daughter Atara were murdered yesterday not far from the Lebanese border. So were Ophir Conrik, Yehudit Cohen, Garman Rozhkov, and Ayal Lieberman. Several terrorists from the Hizbollah had infiltrated the border. They were for all intents and purposes killed by Ehud Barak.

Ehud Barak had assured everyone in Israel that there was nothing to fear from the Hizbollah once Israel withdrew. The Hizbollah would have "No Further Reason to Fight". Tell that to Lynn and her daughter.

Yesterday, the last smidgen of "success" of the Cult of Oslo ended. There can no longer be any question. Israeli pusillanimousness produces terrorist atrocities, not peace. Ehud Barak should be arrested at once and prosecuted for the six deaths he caused yesterday.

Hours later, Labor Party spokesman Efraim Sneh, whose father had run Israel’s Communist Party for decades, announced that Israel would respond to the murders of the six by … (drumroll) … turning the other cheek and not responding. It did not wish to open up a "second front", he said, and we are still trying to figure out where Sneh thinks Israel has really opened up a first front. Sneh is today regarded as one of the LESS dovish Labor Party leaders.

Has the Oslo Left learned anything from this? The Oslo Cult never learns anything about anything. The press this morning is filled - as it is every day - with the usual Op-Eds and petitions and statements by the lemmings. About how if Israel just agrees to withdraw from the West Bank and Gaza to the Green Line; if it removes the settlers and lets the PLO have a state; then the conflict will be over. There will be peace. There will HAVE to be. For what else will the Palestinians have to fight over? Trust us. It will work.

    Just like in Lebanon…..

  2. We thought you’d be interested in learning that the PC crowd in Israel seems to have a new cause - demanding that a school run by "scientologists" be recognized and granted equal funding by the taxpayer.

Let me explain. The "Scientologists" are a weird pseudo-religious cult, set up by Ron Hubbard. Hubbard had spent most of his career writing about UFOs and space aliens and then set up a cult, making him a sort of gentile Barry Chamish. The scientologists believe in things like levitation and ESP and tax evasion. They have gotten themselves into loads of trouble in the US and Europe. The are routinely prosecuted in Germany for fraud. The FBI investigates them and they are suspected of violence. Their best known follower may be the IQ-challenged actor Richard Gere.

Strangely, Scientology has a fair number of Israeli "followers". Indeed, it may be the second most popular pagan cult among Israelis, after Oslo. The Los Angeles Scientology Church (which is what they call it) is crawling with Israelis. They have chapters all over Israel.

Some "church" members have set up a school in Holon outside Tel Aviv. It got public funding. But the Ministry of Education under Livnat moved to shut it down due to the abysmally low levels of scholastic achievement. I guess the pupils were too busy levitating to learn algebra. The cult is petitioning the Supreme Court to force Livnat not only to leave it open but also to grant it funding equal to that granted any real school.

Get ready for the Sensitivity Lobby to take to the barricades to defend the Cult school.

  3. We thought you’d find this of great importance. Israel’s Tenured Reds put out a Marxist journal entitled "Theory and Criticism", in Hebrew and sometimes translated issues in English. "Critical" in PC-speak means Marxist. It is edited by Yehuda Shenhav, a Marxie sociologist at the University of Tel Aviv.

Its new issue is devoted to the "Queer" Perspective of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Moreover, it invents a new Hebrew term. "Kveer" is now Hebrew for "Queer", which - somewhat amazingly - became the PC term for homosexuals on Western campuses. (The US Reform movement is - as always - behind the times and still considers "queer" to be insensitive. It only performs Gay Marriages, not Queerdoms.) The issue includes a piece by Haaretz lesbian feminazi Orna Kazin about how lesbians are struggling for peace and justice, and a piece by Yuval Yanai, a gay sociologist at Haifa University, on the "Kveer Perspective on the Arab-Israeli Conflict". Better run out and get your copy today.
