A Peace Process for George W. Bush

An Open Letter to President Bush from Shimon Peres, Peacemaker-at-Large:

Dear President Bush:

My heartfelt sympathies to you and the American people.

But we must really speak about how to deal with these atrocities and the attacks on America by these misunderstood Arab activists. President Bush, I have a great deal of experience in dealing successfully with terrorism and this is why I wish to come to your rescue.

President Bush, the first thing you must realize is that one can only make peace with one’s enemies. With one’s friends there is no need to make peace. There is no military solution to the problems of terrorism, and this is why you must seek a diplomatic solution. No Justice, No Peace, as they say. You must invite Osama Bin Laden and his people to meet you on the White House Lawn and at Camp David and there you must listen carefully to his demands. You must learn to feel his pain and understand his needs.

You must meet Bin Laden’s demands nearly in full. In addition, you must offer him internet web services and five-star tourist hotels in exchange for his promising to abandon violence. That is how we turned Yassir Arafat into a Quaker. You see, military force serves no role any more. It is passe. It is archaic. Today economic interests dominate the world and the Bin Ladens of the earth will surely make peace in exchange for some profits from participating in global trade.

The attacks on America came because you have been insufficiently sensitive in understanding the needs of Moslem fundamentalists. You took their rhetoric at face value, whereas WE in Israel know that all this rhetoric is empty and in fact these people simply want peace. Sure they praise Hitler and celebrate atrocities, but what is it that they REALLY want? You must negotiate even while under attack; conditioning negotiations on an end to violence is a no-win situation. It will simply extend the bloodshed!

You have been trying to rule over others. You have illegal settlements that you have yet to remove from Guam and Puerto Rico. You must put your own house in order and eliminate inequality and injustice in the United States and then the terrorists will no longer target you.

The key is to build a New Middle West, one in which everyone is so busy with the important matter of development tourism and investments and hi-technology that they have no time to pursue violence. The era of war is finished.

Moreover if you strike at Ben Laden and his supporters you will simply extend and enlarge the cycle of violence. Your bombs will no doubt injure some innocent children and civilians alongside any terrorist activists you strike, and that will simply enrage the rest of the world and make the victims seek revenge. Your bombing Bin Laden and his supporters will cause them to hate the United States and drive them to terrorism. Moreover, if you refuse to negotiate with Bin Laden, then he will be toppled and a REALLY violent militant and fanatic will take his place. In that case you will have lost the window of opportunity to make peace. Begin by declaring a unilateral ceasefire!

President Bush, Blessed is the peacemaker. The entire world will support you and congratulate you if you respond to these horrific attacks by disarming America and opening dialogue with the terror activists. All we are saying is give peace a chance. Yitzhak Rabin would have approved. Yes, chaver, what you need is shalom, salaam, peace. You will be cheered and awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in recognition. Do not allow yourself to be drawn into the gutter of violence. Violence never achieves anything. History is no lesson - forget the response to Pearl Harbor. History is the dead past.

Seize the moment, President Bush. Show us America’s finer side. Make peace with Bin Laden so that all of our children can have better lives. End the cycle of violence. Show restraint. Forego the juvenile impulse to avenge.

Follow my example!! Provide Bin Laden’s people with anti-aircraft missiles so that they can battle against the TRUE radicals and fanatics. And they will do so with no ACLU nor Supreme Court to restrain them. Demonstrate your humanity by paying pensions to the widows and orphans of the terrorist kamikazis who crashed the planes. Send millions into Bin Laden’s personal bank account. Invite his troops into Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia. Let him open offices next to Lafayette Park.

If you do all of this, I know I will campaign on your behalf and urge Americans to vote for you, much as the administration of Bill Clinton helped me impose my policies on Israel.

President Bush, the proof is in the pudding. My own peace policies have eliminated war and bloodshed and terror from the Middle East. We no longer have terrorists to deal with in the Levant, only peace partners. If you follow in my footsteps you can achieve the same lofty goals.

Peacefully yours,

Shimon Peres, Peacemaker-at-Large

A Letter to President Bush from the Arab Anti-Defamation League:

Dear Mr. President:

Our heartfelt condolences regarding the events of the past days. Yes, we grieve even though we know how much the United States got its just deserts in this matter. We feel your pain, even as we understand the motivations of those perpetrators of these protests against injustice. You see, if the Moslems of the world HATE the United States and want to destroy it, you and the other Americans need to ask yourselves what you have done to earn the enmity of so many peace-loving justice-seeking people. As you know, Islam is the religion of peace.

What you have done of course is to interfere in other people’s affairs. You have enraged the Arab world by getting in the way of their business of perpetrating genocide against the Jews. You have interfered in something that does not concern you. The Arabs are perfectly justified in seeking to conduct genocide against the Jews because the Jews set up a country in a place where they do not belong. The Jews of the Zionist entity have no business trying to defend themselves and preventing the implementation of peace and justice. The Middle East belongs only to Arabs and Moslems and everyone else needs be exterminated. And who are you to prevent Saddam Hussein from imposing peace and justice? Of course, in fact the whole world and even the United States ultimately also must be ruled by Islam, but we are perfectly willing to out off the day for that to happen for many years yet. SO you have nothing to fear from them. Why have you gone out of your way to earn Moslem hatred?

President Bush, this is your comeuppance. You the Americans earned this. Stop trying to interfere when we conduct genocide. It is our inalienable God-given right. What concern is it of yours?

We are praying for peace and justice.

Cordially yours,

The AADL
