You have to hand it
to the Feds sometimes, folks! With mainstream press
types the likes of Ann Compton at ABC, John Gregory
at NBC and especially Dan Rather at CBS, the Bush family’s
own personal anti-Christ sniping at the President in
their weak, feeble and futile attempt to blame Bush
for not trying to stop the 9-11 attacks, you know that
while the president was not responsible for it, that
somewhere, somehow, some bureaucrat, and I emphasize
the first part of that word - bureau, screwed up on
such a scale that a pooch got nailed on a level that
sent both the Richter and the pooch into orbit.
In a Washington Post
story that ran yesterday, it turns out that an internal
FBI letter - 13 pages long, single-spaced with footnotes
no less, was sent to FBI headquarters in Washington
by none other than Coleen Rowley, the chief counsel
to the Minneapolis FBI field office. The letter was
particularly bitter in its tone and personally critical
of Director Robert S. Mueller III, with a singular wrath
directed at a supervisory special agent at FBI headquarters,
whom she accused of "consistently, almost deliberately,
thwarting the Minnesota FBI efforts."
Again, this type of
infighting is nothing new - especially among law enforcement
and military types, and is nothing more than a case
of "my Johnson’s bigger than yours" or in
this case, "I have one and you don’t." What
makes this matter even worse is the supervisory special
agent at FBI headquarters in Washington’s seemingly
complete refusal to put his ego aside and allow the
greater good to be accomplished. This agent (the supervisor)
seems to have been so insecure about passing on key
information from someone else and more particularly
from a woman it seems, that over 3000 people may have
needlessly died as a result of one man needing to masturbate
his ego and get credit for scoring a huge feather in
his cap to which he was not rightfully entitled. The
job is not about scoring points or stroking one’s ego;
it’s about saving lives and making America a safer and
better place for ourselves in which to live and more
importantly for our children and their children as well.
In her letter, Rowley
asked for permission to further pursue the investigation
against Zacarias Moussaoui, who is now believed to have
been the 20th hijacker, had he not been arrested on
other charges prior to that fateful morning last September.
Even on the very morning of the attacks, Rowley contacted
the supervisor in question asking for permission to
dig deeper on Moussaoui, only to be "blown off"
by Mr. Ego, who claimed that Moussaoui’s arrest after
"suspicious behavior" at a flight school was
a "coincidence."
It seems we have a serious
problem here people, as this supervisor is playing with
at the most 12 or maybe 13 cards, with none of them
being higher than possibly a five. Moussaoui was busted
after being reported to the FBI because his "suspicious
behavior" dealt with inquiries about flying a plane
in level flight, but nothing about either takeoff or
landing. I don’t know about you, but I suspect anyone
with an IQ hovering even around 90 knows that such a
question in this day and age means one thing and one
thing only, and that is kamikaze sky jockeys of the
Middle Eastern variety.
Naturally, only snippets
of the letter are out as the FBI, in a desperate attempt
to cover its you-know-what, is circling the wagons and
has classified the document. I’m sure they’re using
the classic "national security" excuse. There
is a legitimate need for national security at times
- especially during this investigation; this effort
to classify Rowley’s letter however, seems to have been
done solely to save itself the accountability required
of all public agencies in which the people place their
trust.
Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity
- these are the words on the seal of the FBI. If ever
there was a time for the Bureau to live by these words,
that time is now. Failing that, even though Mueller
has been on the job as Director less than a year or
so into a ten-year assignment, he should step down in
favor of one who will place legitimate national security,
public accountability and the public good above their
own personal agenda and covering their own hides.
Tell me folks, do you
agree, or am I off base here?
