Best Choice for You and Me - Palin, Tea and the GOP

September 27, 2010

With a title like that it you’d expect it to be followed with a hearty ra, ra, ra, but not so fast. Primary upsets across the nation may be reason to celebrate but, the road is long and caution is advised.

Tea Party backed Christine O’Donnell’s spectacular win in Delaware combined with others around the nation has bolstered conservative hopes of busting the liberal stronghold on both the Congress and the Senate in November.

America wants back a “government of, by and for the people.” Results from the latest wave of primaries are positive indicators that Americans will not be silenced by a liberal power structure that force feeds them like squirming children who won’t eat their peas. That may be no surprise to the six-packs but the power of the emergent Tea Party and the solid influence of Sarah Palin to tip a race has drawn the attention of the nation.

Contrary to the Dems’ assertion that there is a rift between the Tea Party and the GOP, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) and Indiana’s third ranking GOP man Mike Pence, have made it clear that O’Donnell will get full support and maximum contributions from the Republicans.

Several warnings must accompany the recent victories of both the Tea Party and the GOP. America is expecting the two parties to buddy up for both mid terms and the 2012 extravaganza for the sake of a nation that has recently taken a wrong turn. Should the Tea Party become a caucused third party before 2012, it would be like handing the Dems, liberals and Barack Obama a sure win. We can only hope that there is no one in either party that has not heard of, nor fully understands that theorem, born of common sense or our recent history that we now call, “The Ross Perot Effect.”

Although the term “divide and conquer” is generally associated with the science of computer algorithms it is not a term unknown to the Democrats. Simply suggesting that there is a divide between the Tea Party and the GOP doesn’t make it true but the power of suggestion and a play on perceptions can plant a seed that could result in a panic. If either party feels threatened by the influence of the other they may reconnoiter, close ranks and divide. For the nation’s sake this must not happen.

Some journalist will risk being redundant to make a point, for me being redundant is part and parcel to my calling and the purpose of my life. Giving the next fair warning was induced by a passing remark made by Dick Morris on the Hannity show on the evening of September 15, 2010. Morris was filmed in the Vatican and was interviewed by Hannity who was seeking his response to the night of primaries but especially the powerful result of the race in Delaware. Morris said that since abortion and the gay agenda were not “hot button topics” in this election that the Tea Party and the GOP have a better chance of appealing to voters on the prevailing problems of the economy, jobs and taxes.

Morris was correct about the issues of abortion and the gay agenda but they cannot nor will they ever be separated from our economic welfare and our future in total. I am not naïve, I know that the most intensely conservative politicos in America may not believe in what I am saying but that takes nothing from it.

Those who thought the gay agenda was just a movement to gain more social acceptance of gays, have seen of late that the push goes way beyond that simple goal. It has leeched downward in attempts to influence the mindset of children so young they have hardly begun to walk. It has reached upwards in the social strata to threaten the God given union of marriage between one man and one woman. I cannot fill an op-ed with dozens of scriptural references to make a point but I can safely assure my readers that many verses and passages of writ clearly say that God will not turn a blind eye to these matters.

The scourge of abortion may be pushed to the back burner while hot political topics like the economy and taxes are brought to the front but culpability will not be dismissed by popularity. Science cannot give us terminology that can supplant human intuition, common decency and scriptural warning: we all know a “fetus” is a human being.

Once again I will perform the essence of my calling and convictions by reiterating this single point. A nation’s morality and its economy are always inextricably linked. They are the horse and carriage of Gods plan for all societies. You cannot deny life and presume that you will always have a lot of good and plenty with a bank account to remedy the possibility of a few rainy days.

I share in the recent conservative victories around the nation but I must warn that economics are not all there is to our national life. The gay agenda, and abortion may no longer be hot button topics but they are the buttons that if not dealt with will lead to an economic downturn that no amount of conservatism in politics will be able to rectify.

The truth be told; abortion and the gay agenda have never been merely “hot button topics.” They are in reality the teeth of a ravaging lion that comes from behind without warning to tear at the fabric and flesh of a nation. God sends his guides and trackers (prophets and bards) to warn of the encroaching lions but the warnings can go unheeded.

Think the economy is top priority and the rest are long forgotten hot button issues? Pause and think again. Those fifty million lives were cast aside for various reasons but mostly to gain a few more possessions and a better chance at riches so readily available in this nation. When will we come to the realization that those lives were the riches?

The Psalmist said, “Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” (Ps 127:3)

The great King and Prophet David says, “Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.” (Ps 52:7)

The Lord himself proclaims, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” (Luke 12:15)
