Why Are the Protesters Silent about the Malaysia Flight MH17 Tragedy?

August 4, 2014

The world spoke after 9/11 that we were all Americans. Why is the world silent now? Where is the outrage in the voice of the world leaders and consistent, repeated calls for justice? Where are the antiabortionists and pro-life proponents? Where are the right to choosers? Where are the environmentalists that protest big oil and fracking? Where is the tea party?

Where is Hollywood? Where are animal rights activists? Where are the opponents of the death penalty? Where are the Occupy Wall Streeters? Where are the hands across America? Why is no one singing “We Are the World?” Are not 298 people, 80 of whom are children, worth our public outrage and protestations?

Where am I? As I asked rather indignantly this morning where leaders, government and protesters were, the face staring me back in the mirror was mine. I stand today in public outrage and protest to this senseless act of mass murder and further shameful denigration of the crash site.

A voice is heard across the world, mourning and great weeping, a mother weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted because her children are no more.
