The Secular And Cultural Assault On ChristianityAugust 12, 2024“They have mouths and speak not; they have eyes and see not. They have ears and hear not; they have noses and smell not. They have hands and feel not; they have feet and walk not: neither shall they cry out through their throat. Let them that make them become like unto them: and all such as trust in them.” Psalm 113: 5-8 There was a time among Western nations when religion, its values, and institutions, were respected and highly regarded. The political class, big business, academia, the entertainment industry, and even Hollywood in its golden age, produced reverent and morally exceptional films for public consumption. Artistic expression was mindful of the rules and followed suit with its creative product. But over the last 50 years, religion has suffered at the mercy of postmodern secularism and the culture war. We have come a long way, but since the 1960s and the advent of the sexual revolution, the path we’ve traveled has had its twists and turns. Moral turpitude and corruption, vice and sexual perversion; we have witnessed great changes, and have seen once-storied institutions disappear or been transformed into entities that service current fads and unnatural lifestyles. It is not only religion in general that has been the target and victim of secularism and the culture war. The sacred symbols, statues, monuments, art, and the places of worship itself have been mocked and derided, and are victims of extreme irreverence and disrespect. Churches, especially Catholic, have been defaced and damaged. But in the area of what some consider art, there are examples that reveal the outright maligning of religion. In 1987, photographer/artist Andres Serrano, a homosexual, introduced his interpretation of art, the “Piss Christ.” The ‘artist’ submerged a plastic cross in a glass tank filled with his own urine. There was tremendous criticism and outrage, especially from church leaders and the faithful, but secular reprobates thought differently; Serrano received a Visual Arts Award for this sacrilegious junk. This insulting and blasphemous supposed artwork of one of Christianity's most sacred symbols was sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, a government agency. Serrano had this to say, "I had no idea Piss Christ would get the attention it did, since I meant neither blasphemy nor offense by it. I've been a Catholic all my life, so I am a follower of Christ." Take that for what it’s worth. In 1996-2000 in New York City, London and Berlin, in an exhibition entitled “Sensation,” Chris Ofili presented his idea of art. It consisted of combined mixed media on canvas with elephant dung and sexually explicit pornographic images; all this crap over the image of “The Holy Virgin Mary,” also the title of the work. To say this rendition caused controversy would fall short of the actual reaction. Church leaders and the Christian community were outraged. Then-Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, condemned it and called it “sick.” For his artwork Ofili was awarded the Turner Prize, and was the first black artist to win the prestigious award. The Holy Virgin Mary currently resides at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. On February 15 of this year at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a memorial mass was held, which was tantamount to criminal activity, and was a grievous assault on a house of worship. The funeral mass was attended by over one thousand participants. The request came from what was thought to be family and friends. It is rare, however, that a funeral mass is requested by a non-parishioner, but the cathedral agreed to hold the service. The cathedral was deceived and was led to believe that family and friends were requesting a funeral mass for a Catholic. What the cathedral did not agree to, however, was that the funeral mass was for a transgender female, a biological male, Cecelia Gentili. Gentili was an avowed atheist, and was eulogized as “St. Cecelia, the mother of all whores.” St. Patrick’s was lied to, and it was proven to be intentional and was admitted to by the individual who requested the mass. The cathedral was desecrated by transgender females dressed in miniskirts and fishnet stockings. During the sacrilegious and blasphemous event, there were performances and singing and dancing in the aisles. Sacred hymns were sung, but the lyrics were changed in further defilement of the Catholic faith. The Ave Maria was changed to Ave Cecelia. The Cathedral said in part, “We had no idea our welcome and prayers would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way.” The world was waiting with anticipation and great expectations for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Perhaps this was a good opportunity to unite a war-weary world. But then people have a tendency to spoil things, and sure enough, they did. Part of the opening ceremonies, which had its flaws, was an anti-Christian obscene and blasphemous parody of Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” performed by homosexuals, transsexuals, and drag queens, some with exposed genitals. Jesus Christ was played by an obese person with a large headdress that supposedly represented a halo. The outrage went global and beyond all borders. Many European nations, including France, expressed disgust with the antics of these degenerates. The French Bishop and the leaders of most faiths joined together in their condemnation of this defilement of such a sacred symbol of Christianity and over 2.5 billion Christians. The opening verse from Psalms speaks to each of the offenders discussed in these incidents, most of whom have little, if any, respect for religion and the practicing faithful. These degenerates are concerned only with their agendas and deviant lifestyles. Their antics and obnoxious behavior are contemptuous to God-fearing good people with traditional values and standards of decency.
