Why Biden Is Worst POTUS Of All Time

December 9, 2024

Now that we are - thankfully, blessedly - almost done with the Biden era, the inevitable comparisons to other presidents are in full bloom. While I agree with those who say that Joe Biden has overtaken Jimmy Carter for last place in the presidential standings, my reasoning is probably a little different than most.

For one thing, ranking presidents is largely an exercise in futility, given the numerous criteria and weighting apportioned to each, both of which can vary significantly based on the person or organization doing the rating and ranking. Secondly, the criteria have changed vastly over time. For instance, today’s presidents don’t have to worry about issues like slavery or how to expand the nation’s boundaries. On the other hand, pre-1912 presidents didn’t have world wars and, later, nuclear weapons arsenals to concern them, let alone a world interconnected by technology in ways leaders in earlier days could only imagine.

So, with all of that said, I believe that a president’s responsibility regarding our national security is mission #1 – everything else is secondary. With that in mind, Joe Biden clearly beats out Jimmy Carter as the “WOAT.” Why is that? Well, it has little to do with Biden being the consummate lying politician, compared to “I’ll never lie to you,” as spoken by Jimmy Carter. And if inflation and interest rates were the main criteria, Carter would be worse off. What is it, then, that makes Biden so much worse?

Going back to mission #1, Joe Biden sold the country out the moment he accepted the Democrat nomination in 2020, complete with all the strings the far left attached in easing the way for him. By selling out to the far left of his party regarding immigration, federal spending, and “green energy,” Biden massively weakened our national security. As an example, his supporting the Secretary of Defense’s investigation of “extremism” in the military ranks, which really meant rooting out Donald Trump supporters, weakened our fighting forces who were required to adopt a woke agenda as a primary goal versus combat readiness.

On the other hand, Jimmy Carter’s biggest shortcoming, in my humble opinion, was turning a blind eye to the evils of communism as he lectured “right-wing” dictators about their human rights violations. Since the Shah of Iran was one of those non-communist dictators, Carter stood by while his government collapsed and the radical Islamist Ayatollah Khomeini returned to show the world what a dictatorial theocracy looked like. I’m sure most of the Iranian people pined for the days of the Shah to return. But at least Carter “saw the light” once the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in late 1979. However, his boycott of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow probably did more to hurt our athletes than it did the Soviet leadership. Still, Carter did not sell us out in the manner that Biden did. Unlike Biden’s murky dealings with the communist Chinese, we didn’t have to worry about Carter doing illicit deals with the Soviets, although we did worry that he was hopelessly naïve about their intentions.

As a final argument, Jimmy Carter committed no impeachable offense. Granted, he didn’t always pick the best people to advise him – Hamilton Jordan and Bert Lance come to mind - but other than that, having a rather wayward brother was the only real “scandal” in his presidency, until the Iranian hostage crisis came along. On the other hand, Biden’s presidency has been a long-running impeachable offense – from his failure to protect the southern border to his extra-constitutional attempts, to pay off student loans, to his shady dealings with China and Ukraine (how else did Hunter get the sweetheart Burisma gig?), the evidence supporting impeachment is massive.

The lesson of Jimmy Carter’s presidency is that electing a former governor does not guarantee that a competent executive will occupy the White House. While Jimmy Carter worried about minutiae such as who was scheduled on the White House tennis courts and at what temperature Americans should set their thermostats, the economy went off the rails and the Iranian situation blew up on him. However, the lesson of Joe Biden’s presidency is to never elect someone who so clearly has made a political career out of self-advancement versus selfless service to the country. May we never again see the likes of anyone like Biden anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
