Fixing The Culture, Part 2 – What’s Wrong With 911?

March 31, 2025

For those who watch television programs to get an adrenaline rush, there are two 911 programs that fit the bill nicely by showing incredible feats of rescue and recovery. The ABC version is based in Los Angeles, and the Fox version in Austin, TX. Both try to outdo each other in the extremity of the emergencies and their uber-adherence to DEI dogma. For instance, the Texas version includes a transgender black male, a tough-as-nails Muslim woman, a New Age captain (Rob Lowe) who manages to be both beta and alpha, and a gay paramedic and his cop husband. But the LA version, although not featuring all of these variations, has one character that has undergone a radical evolution from a heterosexual sex maniac at the show’s beginning, to a gay man now. The question is, how do the producers perform such a switcheroo, even in the land of fruits and nuts that is California?

Evan Buckley (affectionately known as “Buck”) is the main character in the LA 911 series. He’s young, handsome, and fearless. When it’s time to perform the most daring part of a rescue – for instance, getting a toddler out of the back bedroom of a burning house - Buck is always the guy that goes in and, against all odds, gets the job done. With these credentials, it would seem that Buck could have almost anyone he wanted as a romantic partner. And when the show begins, Buck can’t keep his hands off the ladies. It’s a real problem that even he acknowledges, since the intensity of his addiction gets in the way of performing his job at times. However, instead of finding a 12-step program to address his addiction, he falls in love with a 911 dispatcher named Abby, who’s old enough to be his mother. They have a whirlwind romance that ends when Abby decides to move to Europe. Buck is heartbroken for a while, but then gets involved with an attractive local reporter who is much closer to his age. Everything seems to be going fine, but in the end their mutual stubbornness kills the relationship. So, it’s time to move on to a new relationship, right? Except that this time, a very charismatic search and rescue male pilot enters the picture. At first, it just looks like a bromance, two guys bonding over common interests. But then it takes a more intense turn, and, next thing you know, they’re kissing, and acting like there’s a lot more to come.

I’ve written about this type of thing before. Years ago, a show called Army Wives introduced a gay legal officer (played by Kelly Martin) who is a hero in resolving a hostage situation, then takes a bullet to her leg. Her reward at the end includes a passionate kiss from her female lover. In my opinion, this tarnished a show which had until then focused on showcasing the best of our military in action, and the spouses that support them (including a male spouse of a female officer, which is indeed relevant in today’s military).

It’s this part of the presentation – the same-sex kissing with strong hints that more intimate action is to come – that in my opinion crosses a line from simply acknowledging that such relationships exist in real life, to promoting an agenda that includes this behavior as “normal” and therefore to be accepted by everyone, regardless of their beliefs and values. Call it moral relativism, tolerance for alternative lifestyles, or something else, but in the end, our culture that was built on “Western values” is diminished. However, there are some encouraging signs that people are voting with their wallets as well as their feet.

Disney’s latest attempt at putting a woke spin on a classic, the recent remake of Snow White, has been universally panned and has not performed to expectations at the box office. In fact, The Guardian’s review described the film as “toe-curlingly terrible.” At this point, someone needs to ask the powers-that-be at Disney how many more times they’re going to “woke-ize” their entertainment before they wake up and face the reality that such films are losing them a lot of money. When “Snow White” is played by a Latina actress (granted a very talented one), at the very least, the character’s name and/or the film’s title should be changed. Of course, the implication is that anything white is not cool in today’s world.

What to do about 911? Well, the Texas version (911 Lonestar) has not been renewed by Fox (by the way, the show is produced by Disney’s 20th Century Television). The purported reason is that the show is too expensive to keep producing. Maybe. As for the original (LA) 911, it continues on, and a new spin-off set in Nashville is coming soon on ABC, which by the way is also owned by Disney. All I ask is that you give some serious thought before taking the kiddos or grandchildren to the Disney parks and movies, unless and until they roll back their woke behavior that has seeped into so much of what they do. And consequently, so much of what the viewing public sees, unfortunately.
