Some Of My Scattered Thoughts

March 31, 2025

Some really random thoughts from me this week. This is some of what zips through my head sometimes when I wake up in the night. Along with things I need to fix around the house, and how old friends are doing.

Words are important. They have meaning. What do these tags mean? Do you know?

  • Conservative
  • Liberal
  • Classic Liberal
  • Progressive
  • Socialist – socialism
  • Communist
  • Fascist – fascism
  • Capitalist – capitalism

To be a “Conservative” – what does it take, or mean, really? Are we talking economics or government or religion, or just life? We toss around labels so we can better understand what's going on. But do we really understand?

Truth – has to do with reality. Be careful of labeling yourself, or others, thinking that you really know stuff.

Christian truth has to do with Biblical reality, based on the revelation of Jesus’ life, teachings. Not a fairy tale, but reality-based meaning for life. Look for the meaning of life. What is the meaning of your life?

Current Studies and Knowledge in Physics

I am interested, even fascinated, with current “discoveries” in astronomy and physics, which are more theories than actual discoveries. Sure, there are new scientific findings based on what we can observe in the natural world with modern inventions and techniques. But true science depends on proof. We know there is such a thing as gravity, but we still do not know fully how or why it works.

What we know of the smallest parts of reality and the farthest reaches of the universe is a body of knowledge that is growing exponentially. There are many people who study and learn about all of these things that are largely theoretical. Some good must surely come from all of this study and teaching. I am not really sure why there can be so many of them, making obscene salaries!

BUT…What good is it doing for mankind as a whole? Sorry to ask, but not sorry. It needs to be asked. What good is it? What good is it to study how a person’s body reacts to being in space for a few months? Or underwater in a deep-sea pod? Wouldn’t it be better to do something more practical? Do you really think we are on a path to “colonize” Mars or a stand-alone space station?

It is fun to see even just the headlines from the world of science. The “proof” that they have just discovered that changes how and when they think the entire universe came into being. And how about “life” itself?

Science has no real, viable understanding or definition of life, let alone the purpose or meaning of life. How and why did life form? Or was it created? By God? (Who else, a giant troll?) And who is God? What is God? Where is God?

A recent article I saw says huge space planet-star formations, galaxies, are 2-4 Billion light-years across, and the entire “known” (that we can see) universe is 10-12 Billion light-years. How can you possibly know that? If it takes LIGHT a “light-year” to get to our view, and it started 10 Billion light-years ago, then that which we are seeing is from 10-12 Billion years ago – isn’t it? Well, a light-year is a measure of distance – it is how far light will travel in one year, or approximately 5.866 Trillion miles (give or take). That is ONE LIGHT-YEAR distance, which by definition takes one year.

So do you see the problem here? If the light we are seeing from a star, like Proxima Centauri, is 4.2 light-years away, or roughly 24.6 Trillion miles, then that light, that view that we see, is from 4.2 years ago. So if that star exploded, we would not see it until 4.2 years later. And that is the closest star to Earth besides our Sun. Even our own solar system, the Sun and Earth and our sister planets, is between 3-4 light-years across, roughly 18 Trillion miles. So it takes light from the Sun almost two years to get to the edge of our solar system, but only about 8.5 minutes to get to Earth! Do some exploring at this website ( https://www.unistellar.com/blog/how-big-is-the-solar-system/ ) or elsewhere.

And all the while, everything in the entire universe is moving, extremely rapidly I might add, through space and in relation to everything else. But we still often cannot get along with our next door neighbor about noises, property lines, or colors!

I hope this might give a little more meaning to your life... God Bless You!

My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
