“No Kings” Protesters = More Useful Idiots

October 27, 2025

First of all, if these protesters were as smart as they believe they are, they would know that Donald Trump could not possibly be a king. The most talented goldsmith couldn’t make a crown large enough to fit on a head of that size.

Seriously, I’m having flashbacks to the antiwar protests of the 1960s and 70s, when older people who should have known better joined their young compadres in blasting the Nixon administration for its conduct of the Vietnam War. As we watch history repeat itself, the young people who were demonstrating, not always peacefully, against the Vietnam War are now the retirees who hate Donald Trump for the same reasons they hated Nixon – both seen as too pro-America, and too anti-communist for their tastes. And now, as it was then, they are joining disaffected youths as a sign of supposed solidarity with the cause. When it comes to feeding the monster that hates America, the protesters are engaged in an admittedly laughable attempt to take the heat off the violent Antifa protesters. But what did the aging hippies really accomplish by adorning themselves with animal costumes and marching around with their banners and placards claiming that they don’t want a king to rule over America? My question is, where were these people when King Barack, and later, King Joseph, were in power?

During the Obama and Biden years, if you were a conservative and were paying attention to what was going on in Washington, D.C., you’d be more than a bit discomfited about how the powers-that-be thought of you. From Obama’s “bitter clingers” to Hillary’s “deplorables” to Biden’s audacious (and totally fallacious) claim that “white supremacy is the number one threat to our democracy,” Democrat leaders sounded like kings and queens of old who would just as soon execute those that they didn’t like rather than put up with them. Their words have set the tone for the current atmosphere of none-too-veiled hatred and even violent threats against Republican candidates and officeholders. The Democrat candidate for attorney general in Virginia could easily be howling “Off with their heads,” in another era as he fantasized out loud on the assassination of a political opponent and the opponent’s family.

For all his flaws, and they are many, President Trump has not threatened to take away anyone’s livelihood simply because they refused to take a “vaccine” of questionable efficacy and for which the side effects were largely unknown. He also made no move to shut down the nationwide “No Kings” protests, even in Washington, D.C., a move that a king would make without a second thought.

This latest attempt to continue the narrative that Trump is a “threat to democracy” smacks of increasing desperation by Democrats and their media minions to keep that story going, no matter what it takes. It’s no wonder that Trump feels the need to drone on about his great accomplishments – embellishing each, of course, as the “best ever,” as only he can. He probably thinks he must do this to counteract the ongoing negativity of the narrative that “Trump is a fascist.” However, trolling the demonstrators with a crowned Trump flying a fighter jet full of poop bombs is not necessarily the best way to win the public relations battle.

Returning to the lessons of Vietnam protests, what the antiwar demonstrations lacked in numbers (with notable exceptions such as “moratorium” day in 1969), they made up for in impact. Protesting against the Nixon administration was, to liberals, the quintessential example of “speaking truth to power.” This perceived righteousness has stuck with leftist true believers to this day. And, in Trump, the current protesters have found the same type of bogeyman, that is, to them, the real anti-American who must be stopped. In their minds, the same righteousness adheres to their cause that the anti-war protesters felt. Although many on the right are laughing off the No Kings protests as an astroturf-ish clown show (not without some validity), we can’t just assume they will put their signs away and give up. And yes, the “we” includes our president, whose actions often provide fodder, rightly or wrongly, for the false narrative.

Example: tearing down part of the White House to construct his dream “ballroom.” It’s easy for the president’s detractors to accuse him of going rogue to construct the ultimate MAGA boondoggle – messing with the people's house without their permission. So, it really doesn’t matter to them that the ballroom is being financed by private donors, including the president himself. Their beef is with Trump taking this “king-like” action without Congressional or other approval. Another thing I’m surprised we haven’t heard complaints about is the TV advertisement showing Trump hawking his line of watches. Granted, you’re never going to see another president do this, at least not while in office. Of course, viewers need to watch a conservative-leaning network such as Newsmax to see such an ad, and chances are good that few if any of the protesters actually tune in there. More’s the pity for them, if they only knew.
