"The Case For Christ" - In The Search For Truth, We Celebrate Jesus' Resurrection

March 30, 2026

I recently watched the 2017 movie THE CASE FOR CHRIST, featuring the story of Lee Strobel, an atheist/agnostic who set out to disprove the facts upon which the Christian faith is based. It came out as a book in 1998, by Lee Strobel, who did the opposite of what he set out to do - he proved to himself quite thoroughly that everything he could find proved not only the existence of Christ Jesus, but also His divinity. He was truly the Son of God, as proclaimed in the New Testament, who was crucified and buried and rose from the dead, according to quite attestable historical evidence.

The movie itself is quite good. Sometimes, let's be honest, Christian movies (as with any genres), can be quite hokey. But this movie is solid, with many positive reviews, and is worth watching - especially as a believer.

As a Christian believer, we can all go through periods of questioning concerning our faith, especially regarding the miraculous and spiritual nature of things that are, well, spiritual! Those who “trust in science,” so they think, only trust what they can see or feel, and test and categorize, questioning and opposing anything that is beyond the senses. But there is much more to the world than what we can see, feel, taste, or measure.

Jesus says in the Bible, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” What can that possibly mean? Men throughout history have been aware of there being a “greater power” than ourselves. Some deny it quite vehemently, which seems weird that anyone would get too worked up about something they deem not real anyway. Others develop all sorts of thoughts concerning God, evolving into quite intricate systems of religion, including forms of worship or sacrifice that they think will be pleasing to God, to offset their failings as humans.

We are called to give an answer to people who question our faith, and all too often we don't have that answer ready. It can be because we do not give much time or attention to our faith. But as with a stale or waning marriage, it deserves more nurturing than we give it sometimes. In life, there can be an ebb and flow, but our faith can always be growing in strength and intensity. We are confronted daily with the questioning of the world, the doubting of those who trust only in the “common sense” of man, living only for your own selfish desires. We are called to love one another, and to do that we must open our eyes and look around, and see one another.

In a way, I just recognized that this is an entirely appropriate EASTER post. In spite of all the chocolate Easter bunnies and Easter eggs and frivolous trappings of the holiday, Easter is first and foremost a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead around 2,000 years ago.

God bless you as you celebrate, or as you ask the inevitable questions about the very existence of God and what that means for you. Sooner or later, we are all confronted with the very spiritual question of life - what it is, where it came from, and where it is going.

"I was raised by a Christian minister, Kenneth Hayden, until his death when I was 10. Then my mom Bonnalee Hunt Hayden married a farmer. So I was raised in a very down-to-earth home. My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
