Reflections On The Kirk Heritage - LegacyBy Paul Hayden May 11, 2026Erika Kirk shared a speech at Hillsdale College for its 174th graduation ceremony, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. She has had quite a year, since her husband Charlie was shot and killed by a deranged young man. Erika is quite treasured by many in the conservative community, as she stepped into a role that was created by Charlie's absence. I do not think she intended in any way to be in this role, especially as a young mother of two, and would likely have preferred to be Charlie's wife and “helpmeet,” as the Bible says. But here she is. You can do a search for “Erika Kirk speaks at Hillsdale College commencement, receives honorary degree," on YouTube, to find the speech. She spoke with wisdom and grace and compassion, with a seeming thankful heart, about truth and commitment, faith, life, family, learning, and dedication to liberty. Especially concerning her beloved husband, Charlie, she spoke with fond memories and adoration. There are many who have such animosity and even hatred for Erika Kirk, sharing such horrific accusations and gossip through the bowels of the Internet. It's a shame. This whole event and her speech remind me of a passage in the New Testament, found in the small book of Philippians, chapter 4, verses 4-9. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! There is such filth and degradation in the world today, with language that used to be rarely heard among the most coarse and lowest class of citizens now being freely spoken by even young school children and in refined professions. There is such a loss of respect, both for ourselves and for others, that is reflected in the behavior and language of so many. It is no wonder that abortion is so prevalent. Respect for life itself is at stake. Treasure life, and count your blessings. As the Army advertisement said, “Be all that you can be!” It is so much more appropriate concerning a life found in Christ Jesus, than in the military service to our country, as noble as that might be. God bless you!

Paul Hayden is a Christian believer, and an American patriot, necessarily in that order. He is a student of the Bible, and is avidly interested in our role in the context of history, as understood through the heart and eyes of faith. Paul has lived and traveled somewhat widely, and now lives in the heartland of the U.S. (central Illinois), with his wife Donna - they have five grown children. Since December of 2016, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of www.ConservativeTruth.org."I was raised by a Christian minister, Kenneth Hayden, until his death when I was 10. Then my mom Bonnalee Hunt Hayden married a farmer. So I was raised in a very down-to-earth home. My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
