Changes May Come? Changes Always Are Coming!

Change happens. So be proactive – make changes yourself. It's good sometimes when things stay the same, not boring, just no calamities!

A whole lot of people are very upset because Dannon yogurt recently stopped making their coffee yogurt. There was an uproar about it, especially from those who had become almost addicted to it! Amazing how some “1st-world” problems are such a big deal. 

So learn to adjust, because changes are going to happen in life. Always. Some changes will be minor, like breaking your favorite coffee cup. So move on. Some changes will be major. Someone will die. You might lose a limb or eyesight or hearing. Or like wrecking a nice car. 

Don’t let changes destroy you, but learn to welcome and embrace them as part of your life. Try new things – you might just find your favorite thing ever by trying something new. Don’t be afraid, like tasting something new or different – you can always spit it out if you have to. Find some little edible treats. Enjoy them. Like soft-center Werther's caramels, one of my favorites. Or black licorice. 

Be careful of addictions, but learn to enjoy patterns that are there for a season.

If you do this sort of thing, take a picture of a delicious pizza or a pastry or a cup of coffee or a little mess you made. Start young. You can keep these pictures on a computer hard drive or a thumb drive. It can be sort of like a journal for yourself. Memories will fade, and some go away entirely. It’s all part of life. You can use this technique to do some decluttering in your life. If there are things around your home that you have really enjoyed, but no longer really use them, just take a picture of them, and then pass them on to Goodwill or a thrift store, or as a gift to someone else. You will still have the memory in the photo!

God has been in my life from early childhood. My Dad was a pastor, so I was raised in church. In my late teens, I met a Jesus person, a pretty young girl who actually became my first wife. Colette. I called her “mon miel” – it means my honey, a term of endearment in English, but not so much in French, I learned. She inspired me to grow up in my faith in God, and to really study the Bible in depth. 

I had a dear college friend, Adrian. He was artsy. A dreamer. A sort of visionary. He enjoyed having fun, but he was a deep thinker, too. We had many long, deep talks. He looked at things differently. Of course he did, because he had different life experiences than me. We have reconnected after many years, and again have had several nice talks. 

I had a sort of vision at a Denny's restaurant, when I was there late one night with Adrian. I had always believed in God, but now I needed to grow up, to see God differently, in what I discovered was moving into adulthood. It was like God talking to me in an inner voice. "I’m the same God you believed in, but you just have to grow up in me." It led to a change that needed to happen for me. It is probably true of all of us. Until we are fully mature and grown up into all that God has for us, we do need to keep changing. As we give ourselves to Him, God works in us to change us into what He wants for each of us!
