Sacrificed at the Altar of Liberalism

October 22, 2007

Liberals do not mind if you die. Die young, die old, die before your time- no matter. Liberals pursue rules and make laws based upon the pursuit of votes and the pursuit of strengthening their ideology.

If there is a law or policy that does not represent the good of the country but does advance liberalism, liberals will side with that which advances their ideology (i.e., their views on the prosecution of the war against Arabic Muslim terrorists).

To be fair, too many conservatives also pursue that which attracts votes. These conservatives usually morph into moderates over time. But liberalism can kill.

Case in point: one of the top five bastions of liberal foolishness in America- California. Juxtapose two stories recently in the news: another hospital closing in southern California- this time in south Los Angeles- and the new state law that prohibits landlords from checking the immigration status of potential tenants (signed by liberal Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger). Neither of these stories are the result of conservative policies.

There you have it- a shining example.

Ah, but non-liberals will need this explained to them because they do not think in the same cynical and repressive terms. Liberals' outer layer of their supposed compassion conceals the actual and deadly effects of their policies.

The hospital closings that have been taking place over the past few years are largely due to the heavy costs for hospitals of treating illegal aliens for free. Illegals do not have health insurance, so they use hospital emergency rooms as their "urgent care," to great expense to taxpayers. They go to emergency rooms for colds and other minor ailments, along with the major ailments which send those with insurance to emergency rooms. They know that hospitals must treat them regardless of their legal status- it's the law.

Fourteen southern California emergency rooms have closed within the past five years. Fifty southern California hospitals have closed since 1996. There are other factors involved besides the burden placed by illegal aliens, but without the illegals, many hospitals and emergency rooms could survive. The burden of illegals is that great- there are an estimated three million illegal aliens in California alone.

The misuse of emergency rooms increases wait-times for everyone else. Anyone who has ever had a true medical emergency and had to visit a California emergency room understands this. Six-hour waits are not unheard of, particularly on weekend nights.

Hospital costs go up until they go out of business- or, if government financed, until they become too expensive to operate- leaving a shortage of hospitals. In the case of California, the shortage of hospitals is a serious matter.

The liberal solution? More government involvement in the allocation of health care resources and government subsidization of illegal aliens accessing our health care system. Rather than cure the disease, liberals only want to treat one symptom of the disease.

Anything that encourages illegal aliens to enter our country degrades health care for Californians and unnecessarily drains the resources of hospitals. Fewer hospitals equal longer ambulance trips and more hospital over-crowding. Longer ambulance trips equals more deaths.

Liberals blame the companies which own and operate hospitals and demand more government intervention, believing that a government agency can make important decisions quickly or operate more efficiently.

The best recent example of encouraging illegal aliens to come to the once-golden state is a recent California law prohibiting landlords from checking the legal status of potential renters. We can't allow patriotic Americans to concern themselves with trifling matters such as the rule of law or to worry about whether they are harboring fugitives. Of course, in California illegals are not fugitives, rather they are welcomed with open arms.

Word travels quickly back to Latin American countries: one more hazard eliminated in the quest to live in rich America without the fear of being deported. Thus, more are likely to trek to America illegally.

More non-tax-paying, uninsured residents means more over-crowded hospitals (and schools, and highways), which means more hospital closings, which means more dead California citizens.

Apparently that is okay with liberals. A greater number of illegals will come into the state than the number of citizens who will die, so that's a net gain, right? Illegals can vote in California (they use the "honor system" for voting- no identification is required when registering to vote or when casting votes), so the better liberals assist illegals, the more votes they are likely to receive.

Go visit California- it's a great place to vacation. Just don't get sick or injured, or you'll risk being sacrificed at the altar of liberalism.
