Stand Up In Support Of Murkowski Amendment!

June 14, 2010

Contributed by Doug Edelman

In all likelihood, you have either not heard of the Murkowski Amendment at all… or have heard advertisements against it claiming it is a “Bailout for Big Oil,” and presenting it as some way to allow them to pollute without restriction or penalty.

The Leftist Greenies have put together an extremely dishonest, inaccurate and misleading ad campaign against the Murkowski Amendment. And at least in my home market – they have come up with quite an interesting strategy: Advertising on conservative radio!

Huh?

Check it out: It opens with a knock on the Bailout of the “Fat Cats on Wall Street.” Then on the Bailout of the Auto Industry. Then they say that lobbyists for Big Oil have cobbled together a “backroom deal:” a "bailout" to circumvent “the rules” and allow them to “keep polluting.” They also invoke the image of the Gulf oil spill fouling our shores.

They pepper the ad with buzzwords which might perk the ear of conservatives. Linking the amendment to bailouts and sneaky backroom legislation (you know… that stuff that Leftist Democrats do!) creates a negative impression in the mind of a Conservative. And the ad is running on the Conservative stations. Unless one does his or her homework to learn what the Murkowski Amendment is… they might be easily swayed to stand against it!

Well, here’s what the Murkowski Amendment is. It is the defense against the EPA’s attempt to end-run around the failure of Congress to pass Cap and Trade – and to implement its destructive agenda by regulation rather than legislation! The EPA has issued a “finding” that CO2 is a “pollutant” and falls under the EPA’s regulatory authority. That means the EPA will REGULATE C02 emissions… and since everything that breathes generates CO2, there is really no limit to the regulation they can impose!

Will they suddenly slap a tax on you every time you pop a champagne cork, open a can or bottle of CARBONated soda or pour a frosty cold one? As if the fisheries industry hasn’t suffered enough at the hands of BP… how will they survive if they outlaw dry ice (frozen CO2!)? Get the picture?

The science behind “global warming” is at least questionable and has suffered numerous blows to its credibility. CO2 is a nutrient to our crops and virtually all the world’s flora. But I’m not going to waste space here debating the merits of the global warming debate. The point here is the EPA’s attempt to assume regulatory control by fiat as a means of implementing the Cap and Trade agenda without need for legislation which the Reid/Pelosi Congress has "failed to deliver" for the Leftists.

The Murkowski Amendment nullifies the EPA’s “findings” that CO2 is a pollutant, and strips the EPA of authority to regulate it. It PROTECTS us from an out-of-control, unelected and unaccountable "Barackracy" regulating virtually every aspect of life.

We must begin to educate, motivate and agitate on this – to bring public pressure on our Senators to support the Murkowski Amendment!
