Cordoba Mosque, Texas Board and the Associated Press

October 4, 2010

As the Texas State Board of Education continues to be lambasted for signing a one page resolution to limit Islam in our children’s textbooks, parents continue to be outraged by what they find in our public schools. Houghton Mifflin’s “Across the Centuries” is loaded with statements such as "The Quran is the final revelation, just as Muhammad is the final prophet." Exercises include instructing children to assume they are Muslim soldiers while in the Jewish section they are told to imagine they are Jews being kicked out of their homeland and in the Christian section, to imagine they are back in the tomb (of the dead Christians).

For exact quotes see textbook reviews at http://www.blessedcause.org

The Associated Press quoted Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network, asking why this happened when "anti-Muslim rhetoric in this country has reached fever pitch." The Texas School Board began their stand to clean up our textbooks long before the Cordoba Mosque situation made headlines. But now that you mention it, let’s look at what the Houghton Mifflin textbook wrote about the Cordoba Mosque in Spain. What do you know, it has a shoutout:

“The Great Mosque at Cordoba”

“The great city of Cordoba demanded a great mosque. The building begun by Abd al Rahman I in AD 785 eventually became the third largest mosque in the world. Twice the wall facing Mecca was pushed outward.” [This could prove ominous for the southeast buildings from Feisal Rauf’s Mosque.]

The textbook continues: “The courtyard and mosque, open to each other, allowed Muslims to feel Allah’s invisible presence whether they were inside or outside the mosque.”

Let’s flip to the Christian Unit to find something similar to Allah’s presence…let’s see… “Tacitus shared the Roman view that Christians should be convicted (death) for their “hatred against mankind.” No, that can’t be it…

Back to the Cordoba Mosque in the textbook, who was this Abd al Rahman I? It leads into the Cordoba Mosque section: “Although there were many Muslims in Spain, there was no unified Muslim government. [new heading] UNITING MUSLIMS IN SPAIN: By 756 the Umayyad forces in Spain, who did not support the new Abbasid caliphate back in Baghdad, accepted Abd al Rahman as their leader. With this Umayyad help, Abd al Rahman was able to establish an independent Muslim kingdom.”

Just what we need, a unified Muslim government/kingdom overlooking 911. I shuddered when I heard Rauf talk about “good” Christians and Jews. There is so much America does not know about Islam!

Meanwhile Judge Phyllis Hamilton ruled our children could be required to pray to Allah on their hands and knees in simulation of Islam. They can be required to take Muslim names, fast for Ramadan, all five pillars of Islam. Though our children’s bodies are acting out the motions as their words speak praise to Allah, don’t worry, their minds are free to believe what they want. Slaves have this sort of freedom as well. Kathy Miller of the Texas Freedom Network, advocate for religious freedom, must be fine and dandy with this. I suppose the Associated Press is as well because they described her as advocating religious freedom. Excuse me, Associated Press, but look closely. It’s the Texas School Board that is advocating religious freedom!

Christians and Jews believe in the Ten Commandments, and God’s First Commandment is “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Oh wait, our multicultural teachers tell us it’s the same god, right? Except if a Muslim converts to Christianity or Judaism, the penalty is death.

“Take heed that you are not snared and that you inquire not after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?” (Deut. 12)

Parents, stand up. Say something. Jesus said,

“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32)

Love the Muslim but protect your kids from Islam. And please pray for the Texas School Board. They are under serious attack while fighting to defend our children.
