In America the Battle is about Truth and Lies

November 29, 2010

Stories about good triumphing over evil are heartwarming; they make good movies and make us feel a bit nobler as human beings.

In reality there is no contest between good and evil but there is a raging battle between truth and lies. There is also an objective in the battle, which is; the souls of men and women.

Evil has an end, it is not permanent and if anything is clear at all in the Biblical message it is that, evil has its day but then is gone forever. In the interim the battle rages for the most precious prize of all; the permanent salvation or ultimate loss of the human soul. The frontlines of that battle are fought in the hearts and minds of all of us. The weapons of that warfare are simply; truth and lies.

The Bible predicts that the battle between truth and lies reaches its zenith near the last days of time as we know it. For all intents and purposes it will look like lies are winning as we approach that day. Everything that heretofore was deemed sinful, taboo, off limits or perverted will start to be tolerated and some evil will and has already become vogue.

Popular notions become acceptable morality if they endure for a time but, they are never any less evil. Knowledge, technical advancements and worldwide travel and communications are all prophesied to come in the last days. Unfortunately the rise of evil is also promised to accompany these advances. In fact, perversions, lies and evil behaviors will actually be elevated as something good.

The other prediction the Bible makes about the rise of lies is that the entire shift to acceptance of them takes place in about one single generation. The rise of lies is said to accompany the rise in knowledge and technology and both take place in the same limited time period.

It is hard for anyone to read this verse but, even harder is the fact that in only about the last forty years its fulfillment has been unmistakable.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

Make no mistake; evil is never good and just saying it is regardless of popular acceptance doesn’t make it change. It is the lie that is socially accepted that causes many to let down their guard and become victims of a popular perversion.

Homosexuality which is condemned by the Bible, generally disdained by society and argued against by nature is one prime example.

On the “View” recently, pop Latino singer Ricky Martin was heard telling all America’s teenagers that he loves them if they are struggling with their sexuality. He has de-closeted and thinks everyone else who shares his inclinations ought to follow him down that primrose path. The response to that proclamation on The View was: a hearty round of audience applause!

Martin, the father of twin boys said "If you're out there, and you're struggling with your sexuality, I love you. You are very important to me; you're very important to this society. God doesn't make mistakes. You are very special. It gets hard sometimes, but it gets really cool afterwards. Accept yourself. It's very cool."

The only thing that could be an unequivocal truth in Martin’s statement is that God doesn’t make any mistakes. That means that homosexuality which God said is an abomination is still just that. He didn’t make a mistake. It is man that makes the mistake of thinking God will change his mind. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Nu 23:19)

The “don’t ask - don’t tell” policy of the military is now under fire and as expected Hollywood celebrities and their drones have shown up in numbers to champion the cause to rescind the ruling. The message they are putting forth is that hindering the exercise of homosexuality in the military is “bullying.”

The fully mesmerized, mind-melded minions of the Hollywood set are bound to march in step to the clarion albeit twisted call of the fallen stars. This doesn’t change a thing. Popularizing or legalizing gross immorality is a cause that will ultimately fail.

To the Hollywood crowd flying against the Bible, nature, common sense, social norms, good health, the propagation of the species and the privacy and sensibilities of our warriors is not bullying. Now the perverted are preferred and are seeking to have their preferences placed before the law to be elevated by the strength of the law to force acceptance whether we like it or not. Using the law to force an issue is no different than using a club to force someone into submission, by any other name it is still just bullying.

Some Hollywood liberals are actually calling for a Constitutional amendment to bring the homosexual agenda in the military and throughout the nation up to par with the emerging social acceptance of the gay life.

Be it one, or a million, we should all realize that what Ricky Martin says is an immutable truth even if he spoke in total ignorance of the Biblical mandates about homosexuality. “God doesn’t make mistakes.” He was not mistaken when he moved the Apostle Paul by the power of his Holy Spirit to say the following.

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.” (Romans 1: 26-28)

America has been able to deal with splits and divisions pretty well in past times. We have been able to make partisanship work for us for over 230 years. Now the lines have deepened and it is more of a conservative, liberal split but looking closer it can be see that America is divided on a far more fundamental level.

Conservatives are the ones who mourn the days gone by and they see our greatness is slipping. Perhaps they and the recently victorious GOP are as some liberals say, the party of no, but to be fair, for the true lovers of the nation it is; no we don’t want the country to be destroyed and no you can’t continue in excesses of spending, bad social behavior and laugh through to the last day in an unending party of indulgence and concupiscence.

We are as a drunken man who does not see the party has ended. He is ushered to the door but will not go willingly. He demands more wine and laughter but the revelers are thinning out and his behavior is becoming excessive. He cannot see the hard morning of sickness and regret that is next for him but only the fleeting moments when friends stood near with warming smiles, every cup ran over with wine and the ring of laughter filled the halls with mirth.

We must never forget that when the handwriting appeared on the wall it was not a command to hoist up the banner of mirth once again and bring on new wine for the crowd; it was the edict of doom to the very discerning and the end of the party for those with only a nominal amount of good sense.

I’ll not quote Lincoln or Ronald Reagan to add emphasis to what is already clearly known or understood but rather I will quote from a vision of the hand of God. It is a well known Biblical vision and you may want to check your Bible or Google it until it is found. It is simple, it is profound and it is the warning that must not go unheeded. Oddly this vision took place in the middle of a drunken feast held by the heads of state in an ancient land known today as Iraq.

“MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.”

No doubt some would say, “Preacher, we are very busy, just pop us the reference to the quote while we are chatting on our cells and driving to our many tasks.” Instead I will quote another verse that might lead you to act on your own.

“But go and learn what this means…” (Mt 9:13 NAS)
