Media Fueled Racism, now 5 Police Dead in DallasAttention should be on solving black on black violence, not fueling Racism.By Robin Rowan July 8, 2016Updated 7-10-16 On the long drive back from a family vacation July 7th, I listened live as the FBI director testified before the House Oversight Committee. He was questioned on how he came to the decision not to recommend prosecution after laying out great details of what Hillary Clinton had done wrong, broken government rules, and how she was so “careless” with national security. More than once a Congressmen on the Oversight Committee took the television coverage opportunity to talk about “black lives matter” and the terrible white police shooting of black men. It was not related to the subject at hand, but they were in front of the cameras, so they got their 2 minutes. Democrat ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, Elijah Cummings, said to the FBI Director “this morning my wife was crying" over the death of Alton Sterling. When I heard his comment I thought,"It’s a shame she didn't cry over the 60 shot and 4 killed in black neighborhoods in Chicago just over the 4th of July weekend. Sterling was a thug with a long criminal record, carrying a gun. In Chicago and even Baltimore black children are being shot for no reason. Where is the outrage on that?” In Rep. Cummings hometown of Baltimore Maryland, reporter Edward Erickson reported for City Paper that in the week leading up to July 4th,
I noticed how quickly the media diverted attention from the FBI Director and Hillary, away from the Chicago shootings, diverted away from Iran saying “we have 1000 rockets pointed at Israel” to two shootings by 'white police of black men.' 123 police officers were killed in the line of duy in 2015. Today, July 8th, with the shooting of 14 and 5 killed, the attention has shifted almost miraculously to support of law enforcement, but for how long? How many people died violent deaths the same day in our country? Does it only matters to the media if race is involved? The focus of black leadership should have been all along on reconciliation between police and the community, solving the problems within the black community, not fueling the fire by making it all the fault of “white police." When the facts were analyzed, the press found that great majority of those killed by police are actually white. According to an extensive study done by the Washington Post, as of December 24th, 2015 965 people were fatally shot by police, 564 were armed with a gun, 281 were armed with another weapon, 90 were unarmed. Of the unarmed subjects shot - 60% were white. When a city like Chicago has 60 shootings in the black community over 4th of July weekend, it can not be blamed on the fact that some police officers are white. Why is the media feeding this frenzy? We saw this in Ferguson when local elected officials said “no justice, no peace” about a white officer before the evidence or trail was even started. The ensueing riots were constantly covered and promoted by the media. Soon afterwards, Baltimore, hometown of Rep. Cummings, was lit aflame before the facts were even known about the death of a black youth at hands of police. Some of the Baltimore officers involved were not white, but that did not matter to the 'black lives matter' movement, politicians or the media. It was still about race and the one poor black teenager killed. Hundreds of other black youth had been killed in violence in Baltimore. Where are thier stories? Look at this from a broader lens. At the same time Baltimore and Ferguson were continually in the news, hundreds of innocent blacks and even children were shot in New Orleans and Chicago in black on black crime. After the media left the riots and burning of businesses in Baltimore, the murder rate skyrocketed as the thugs were empowered and police were weakened. I did not hear one word from black leadership about the issue. President Obama, to his credit, did start a federal program to help police build better relationship between police and high risk communities, though the media did not report it very well. The media is fueling the fire with constant coverage of the rare 'white on black' police shootings, many times the coverage of the black on black violence in Chicago, Baltimore or even New Orleans. The fire has been fueled for far too long. Now the volcano has erupted and 5 police officers are killed in what must be classified as a “hate crime.” Let me rephrase, it SHOULD be a “hate crime,” but it is doubtful that it will be charged that way. Some in the media, to their credit, are tying the murder of the white police officers to the ‘black lives matter movement’ and asking for an investigation of the group. I look forward to a full investigation of the ‘black lives matter’ movement, who is behind it and who is funding it. But do I think we will ever get it? Not likely. It is very possible this movement runs deep into the political spectrum and is being used to ignite votes. With the sniper shooting of police in Dallas, the media, the politicians and "Black Lives Matter" have overplayed their hand. Sources: Murder Ink: 12 Murders This Week, 139 Murders This Year.
