Media Overdue for a Beat Down

September 17, 2012

It’s one thing for the shameless MSM to cover for President Obama on the domestic front. But when it comes to foreign affairs, especially the kind that involves the loss of American life, that’s a whole different ball game.

The vicious 9/11 attacks at our Egyptian and Libyan embassies were clearly not coincidental, nor even all that spontaneous. At first, the blame was laid with an obscure anti-Islamic film made in the U.S. by a shadowy figure, hardly a titan of Hollywood. But as more information came out, it became clear that this was an orchestrated event the purpose of which was to pay “the Great Satan” America back for taking out their hero Osama bin Laden on the anniversary of the 2001 al Qaeda attacks.

Much was made about the timeline of events and Mitt Romney’s alleged jumping the gun with his condemnation of the Egyptian embassy’s apologetic remarks to the Egyptians before they even invaded the embassy. But little has been made in the MSM about how the embassy itself jumped the gun with its PC nonsense before the attack had even occurred. This is like the wimpy kid handing his lunch money to the bully before the bully even makes a threat. Little also has been made of our supposed friendship and support to the new governments of Egypt and Libya, only to have their people kill our diplomats.

By making Romney’s bold, presidential-sounding statements the issue in this horrible affair, the MSM are giving us a preview of how President Romney will be treated should, God willing, he get elected. And Romney, for all his sometimes vacillating and Mr. Nice Guy demeanor, is going to have to show the kind of backbone that too often has been lacking in prominent Republicans. Unlike so many of his contemporaries, he’s going to have to view the MSM for who they are—the enemy. And not only the enemy, but an implacable one that cannot be mollified or pandered to with any hope of a successful outcome. Romney needs to recognize that we out in flyover country will not only have his back, we will be loudly applauding action that is badly and long overdue. For the media has become all-the-more voracious in their appetite to eat conservatives’ lunch over time as they remain largely unchallenged. Until they start getting a smack-down or two, they will stay on the offensive and their narratives will dominate.

By the way, Hillary Clinton’s over-the-top and disgraceful PC performance during this debacle (witness her speech in Morocco apologizing for our First Amendment) should not be ignored either. Far from being the “moderate” that so many admirers believe she is, a Hillary presidency—God forbid—would be only marginally less horrible than what we’re experiencing now. It must be remembered, in the wake of this possibly avoidable tragedy, how badly both Obama and Clinton have miscalculated about the so-called Muslim Brotherhood and their real intentions.
