Where Are All the Courageous Liberals?—but I Contradict Myself

June 24, 2013

The political and cultural stupidity emanating from the television air waves on the embarrassing little NBC News cable outlet known as MSNBC has become absolutely astounding. One can only rationalize any audience at all for this network by realizing that apparently a tiny group of small minded people is driven more by hatred than by logic, more by fear than by compassion, more by ideology than by reason. This is especially true when the left is losing the argument on any particular issue, as it is on abortion.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a pro-life bill this week that finally takes a stand against the left’s 40-year-old war on women and children. (How else would you characterize the destruction of 55 million babies, while justifying untold misery and depression inflicted upon their mothers in the name of “choice”?) And even though their poster boy, Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, is now behind bars, many liberals nevertheless continue to defend the indefensible.

The House bill, which simply recognizes the undeniable medical fact that babies in-utero can feel pain after 24 weeks of gestation, bans abortion after that point. The legislation mirrors some state laws, which ban abortion after as few as 20 weeks. Its introduction also weakens the already crumbling foundation on which Roe vs. Wade was originally built by chipping away at the flawed logic that propped up that decision in the first place — which is why progressives are in such a state of panic.

Unfortunately, with Democrats in control of the Senate, and with the most radical pro-abortion president in American history sitting in the White House, the legislation — which passed the House 228-196 along largely partisan lines — is mostly symbolic. That, however, has not stopped the left from pontificating their inanities — particularly on MSNBC.

A panelist on one of their weekend programs, University of Pennsylvania Assistant Professor Salamisha Tillet, opined that somehow pro-lifers are not just racists, they are outright white supremacists:

“Well, I think, the Census just released data,” Tillet bloviated, “so part of it is the changing racial demographics in the United States. For the first time in American history, children born under the age of five are racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S.

“So I think that there’s a kind of moral panic,” she continued, “a fear of the end of whiteness that we’ve been seeing a long time in that I think, you know, Obama’s ascension as president kind of symbolizes to a certain degree. And so I think this is one response to that sense that there’s a decreasing white majority in the country and that women’s bodies — and white women’s bodies in particular — are obviously a crucial way of reproducing whiteness, white supremacy, white privilege. And so I think it’s just a kind of clamping down on women’s bodies, in particular white women’s bodies, even though women of color are really caught in the fray.”

Aside from observing that this woman apparently needs a teleprompter as badly as Obama does, one hardly knows where to start dissecting her comments. How does a rational human being make such statements in light of the facts? Black babies are aborted in far larger percentages than are white babies. Does it not follow that a “white supremacist” would desire that this pattern continue? Why would a racist, who allegedly hates minorities and wants them eliminated, desire to stop abortion?

Is there not a liberal on the scene today who is willing to stand up to this politically correct nonsense and tell the truth? To her credit, Kirsten Powers on Fox News is one who has spoken up on this issue. Otherwise, where are the courageous liberals? Or am I truly contradicting myself?
