Putin's Approach Should Cost Him Dearly

The question is not, “Is America falling?” but, rather, “Why is America falling?”
When a civilized person wants something that another has, he offers to buy it and negotiates a price. Obviously, Russian President Vladimir Putin is not a civilized person: He wants to take Crimea away from Ukraine by brute force with no mention of compensation.
The land in Crimea is not owned by Ukrainians or Russians, but by Crimean Tartars, as specified in the treaty they made with Catherine the Great, the Russian Empress. Stalin broke the treaty by deporting the Tartars to Kazachstan in toto. After Stalin's death they were permitted to return, but few could afford to. Even fewer could reclaim their ancestral homelands because Russian migrants had settled there in the meanwhile.
Legally, Russia owes a lot of damage compensation to these oppressed people, but nobody has raised that question yet.
We can’t hesitate about Putin’s aggression
Vladimir Putin has demonstrated that he is the greatest current threat to world peace. Islamic terrorists may be able to take down an airliner occasionally and maybe someday acquire a single nuclear weapon but Putin has a massive army, navy, air force and stock piles of nuclear weapons and he has made clear that he intends on reestablishing the Soviet empire.
Because our president has never backed up his words with actions Putin will not pull back from his naked aggression in Ukraine unless we send the Sixth Fleet into the Black Sea. Far fewer lives will be lost if we stand up to him now rather than later.
