Don’t Miss the Real Planned Parenthood issue

August 17, 2015

In four videos (and counting), it has been revealed that Planned Parenthood has been in the business of selling human body parts. There have been calls by conservatives to defund PP (Bill S.1881). I do support this bill, but what I would like to do in this letter is ensure that the real issue doesn’t get lost here. It’s not surprising to see (a local journalist) in her column completely disregard the question that these videos raise. What is the unborn? You see, if all Planned Parenthood was selling were “clumps of cells” then who would really care?

But the problem is we’re not talking about mere clumps of cells. We’re talking about innocent human beings. Human beings with the same rights as you and me. People. No different from you or me, although in a different stage of development. Every person reading this started out as a zygote, an embryo, a fetus, then an infant, toddler, etc. At no point did any of these stages impart to us our humanity. Because from the very beginning (conception) we were what we are – people. According to Planned Parenthood’s 2013-14 annual report, they took the lives of 327,653 innocent people. Granted, Planned Parenthood provides many services other than abortions. But at what cost?
