Alaska Should Just Secede

To some the issue of secession was settled with the Civil War. To people with this mindset, the final answer is that no state has the right to leave the Union. However to those who are truly Americans and educated about our history, the issue of secession was settled with the Declaration of Independence and the fact that the founding fathers did in fact "secede" from the British Empire in order to start what would eventually become the United States.

Jefferson wrote the words, "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." And with that the issue of secession was settled along with the help of several thousand people bearing arms to back up those words.

I think that it is high time some states start taking the issue seriously once again and using it as leverage against an out of control federal government that has expanded beyond the limited powers we agreed to give to it in our Constitution. While I would like to see all the states start pushing back against the gluttonous federal government and begin warning, that if it does not start acting as prescribed, they will leave the Union, one state in particular that should be seriously considering it, perhaps more than most others, is Alaska.

I like Alaska and certainly do not want to see them leave the Union. But I think that it is high time that they begin considering the possibility of leaving the Union.

Alaska is a state, not the only one mind you, that has been repeatedly told by the representatives of other States that they cannot use the land that resides within their borders. They have been told time and again by the rest of the Union that they cannot allow oil companies to explore on land that resides within the state because it has been snatched up and claimed by the federal government to control in excess of any conceivable authority to do so.

If there has ever been a more egregious infringement on the principle of State's Rights and federalism I have not seen it. When it comes to a State being told by people from other states that they cannot have sovereignty over their own land when the proposed use of that land will in way harm anyone in another state, it is a hideous bastardization of the principles of our Republic.

That is why I proclaim that Alaska should consider, in all seriousness, seceding from the United States. Such an action would immediately allow Alaska and Alaskans to reclaim sovereignty over their own land and free themselves from the yoke of arbitrary government and federal interference in their own prosperity. I do not want to see them go their own way, but doing such would indeed send a strong message to those in Washington that there is indeed a limit to their power which they have forgotten to abide by.

The secession of Alaska would immediately allow the people of the State to begin producing more energy for its people and also the entire world. It would also allow the State to be free from asinine rulings by far away bureaucrats who are worried about the population of polar bears. A population, mind you, that have been growing in numbers over the recent years but that are somehow now in need of "protection" - so we are told.

I propose that Alaska should secede because I love Alaska and only want the best for those that live there and, I admit, my own desire to see someone take a definitive step to help curb the current shortage of oil in the world today.

But then again, maybe Alaska doesn't need to secede. Maybe there is another solution? I mean, I like Alaska too much. I want them to continue to hang around and make America great.

Maybe instead of Alaska seceding instead we could get California to secede instead? Yes, that is a possibility with great up side potential.

California seceding would mean that we would be done with a major source of many of our overbearing environmental regulations that increase the cost of every car we buy, every pound of steel we use to build and even every gallon of gasoline we consume. California seceding would also mean that the place where many of our shoddy text books, that discuss every issue under the sun except reading, writing and arithmetic, come from would be removed from our Republic. Their secession would eliminate such inanity as not being able to refer to moms and dads as moms and dads for fear of offending the sensibilities of students that either only have just a mom or a dad or two mommies or two daddies.

Yes, California seceding would be a great alternative. Without the California delegations in both the House and Senate, we would be free from the ideas of people like Nancy Pelosi and we would definitely be electing less left wing Presidents in the future without their electoral vote to sway our country leftward.

I am just trying to think outside the box here. America is far too precious to continue to allow un-American ideas to ruin us.

I wonder how many more illegal aliens we have to let in to California before we can make their secession a reality and get them to leave in favor of becoming part of Mexico once again. And if they will secede, perhaps we can just kick them out. You know, for the good of the Union and such.
