Be Critical, Very Critical, of "Critical Race Theory"

There are forces and a movement that seek to revise history, and cancel Western civilization and its contributions.

These are lyrics from the 1965 best seller hit “Two different worlds.” I believe they can act as a metaphor for life in America today.

“Two different worlds, we live in two different worlds,
so far apart, they say we’re so far apart,
and that we haven’t the right to change our destiny.”

There is great division among the American people, and at times it seems we are indeed living in different worlds. There could be a number of factors that can be attributable to this, including cultural, racial, ethnic, demographic, political, and ideological differences. The schism is only getting worse, and is creating anger and discord, and is highly dangerous. There does not appear, aside from a few voices calling for unity, any serious effort t at unification.

The advent of the civil rights movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s changed this nation, and this transformation has manifested itself in a dichotomy that pits history, traditional American values, and institutions against a movement whose cause is to inject racial division with all its implications into the nation’s ethic, and diminish the contributions of Western Civilization. The fictitious and debunked 1619 Project is a product of the belief that race, specifically slavery, was the primary factor in America’s founding principles.

There are certain entities that have been at the forefront of this transformation and the remaking of America. The political class, entertainment industry, social media, Silicon Valley, and in particular academia, have each contributed to the discontent, detachment, and social and cultural separation among the American people.

In the 1980s a movement began in American law schools that became known as Critical Race Theory (CRT). It is based on white supremacy and is an abstract thought or speculation that has become part of the curriculum in universities and colleges across the nation. It is understood to mean that all legal institutions are inherently racist, and that race itself, the color of the individual’s skin is not only natural and biological, but is also a concept that is used by the Caucasian race to benefit socially and economically at the expense of people of color.

To be clear, racism does in fact exist and can be found among unscrupulous and bigoted people and groups that are today considered as on the fringe. Simply, racism denotes prejudice based on race; a belief that race or the color of one’s skin accounts for differences in human character or ability, and that a particular race is superior to others.

But over time the allegation of racism has also become a bludgeon that is employed by those who seek to squelch any discussion of issues, and strike fear into the hearts of anyone the accuser deems is opposed to their social and ideological agenda. CRT only exacerbates this, and has caused tremendous anger and frustration among people, and can only expand the divide.

William Jacobson is a Cornell Law School professor that describes Critical Race Theory as a “radical ideology that focuses on race as the key to understanding society, and objectifies people based on race. The entire ideology of CRT and anti-racist training is that silence is violence.” He added, “As we head into college application and selection season we need to get parents, in particular, to focus on CRT that will be forced on their kids.” For this purpose, the professor has created a website, CriticalRace.org, about the CRT curriculum with the intent of educating parents of the questionable and controversial movement and its impact in education. The website lists over 200 colleges and universities that are promoting CRT.

Critics believe CRT relies on moral relativism and is antithetical to individual freedom and classical liberalism, and that it perpetuates racism by encouraging segregation. To add to this, I believe it is just another effort by the radical progressive left, which is gaining strength and momentum in academia and the Democratic Party, and whose mission is to transform the American ethos into something that is completely antithetical to the values and principles of Western Civilization that we hold as sacred.
