The Government Is Failing, And The People Are Paying The Price

A Criminal element and vicious gangs have taken over cities causing death and heartbreak, law enforcement's hands are tied, and Democrats who are in control, turn away.

Does this sound familiar? You’ve had a hard, trying day, and are looking forward to a good night’s rest. Your head hits the pillow, eyes close, and then they open, and you find yourself staring up at the ceiling. It’s not that you can’t sleep, it’s that you are besieged by thoughts of the day passed, and what tomorrow will bring, your expectations, and what will be expected of you. You close your eyes again, and this time it takes.

You wake up the next morning, and go to the door and find the daily newspapers have arrived as usual. As make your way to the kitchen, where the coffee is percolating, you are preparing yourself for the news of the day, good and bad, and what has happened in your town, city, state, and nation since you last left the conscious state the night before.

About a week ago, if you were me, when you sat down at the table, took a sip of coffee, and opened up the paper, this is the first thing you saw. But first allow me to introduce you to: Kahlik, Gerardo, Bryan, Devonte, Tony, Xavier, Tory, Jaquan, Kleimer, Cahill, Jaden, Ethan, Jaryan, Ramon, Justin, and Armanis. The photos of these 16 of the 21 young people between the ages of 10 to 16, who have been killed in New York City since January, appeared on the cover of the New York Post.

These innocent kids were collateral damage, in the wrong place at the wrong time, victims of the war in the streets among gang members that rages on. And the mayor, city council, governor, and the entirety of the “defund the police” grievance industry remains silent. There were no protests, demonstrations, or outrage by progressives and Black Lives Matter; the radical Antifa are nowhere to be seen. Like most cities governed by Democrats, crime is increasing and ravaging neighborhoods at an alarming rate, and innocent people are being caught in the crossfire.

According to the police commissioner, and high command, these senseless and reckless killings are the results of “Gun fatalities and other violence driven by gang disputes, drugs, robberies, and other motives, and these gangs are eating these kids alive, and the juvenile justice system is just feeding them more bodies.” With one or two exceptions, which are Hispanic, each of these youngsters is black, as are most, if not all the perpetrators. And the families of both the victims and the ones that delivered death grieve, and with few exceptions, no one sees, or even cares. 

“I am left with a hole in my heart that I don’t know how to explain.” “Those nights I think about how I will never see my son, I just break down,” - the sentiment of a mother whose son was killed by a stray bullet. Where are the police, and why they didn’t perform their duties and maintain the safety and well-being of the citizenry, especially the young, is the first thought that comes to mind? Most of us are by now well aware of the fact that law enforcement in America is under siege. Defund the police is the cry of many Democrats and the progressive left and its minions.

Law enforcement across the nation has lost many of its officers to early retirement and resignations; recruitment is down to some of its lowest levels. These brave men and women, victims themselves, are at the mercy of progressive leftists and Democrats who govern with an anti-police mindset. Police officers feel no one in command will speak on their behalf when it comes to accusations, in many cases unwarranted, of police brutality. Fearing any backlash, their commitment to policing has been considerably affected, and not for the betterment of the public.

When it will end, you might ask, and when will we as a nation, and civilized people, begin to respect more than we do now the dignity of life. As far as when it will end, I believe the first step in that journey to restore civility and law and order in major urban areas across the country, to live in safety and without fear, is to vote out of office, with few exceptions, every single Democrat that controls the reins of government, and replace them with strong uncompromising law and order leadership. Only then will we possibly eradicate this plague we face.
