So Much For Which We Can Be ThankfulBy Paul Hayden November 22, 2021“Give thanks, with a grateful heart…” as a beautiful worship song goes. “Count your blessings, name them one by one…” is another song of thanksgiving. It continues “…count your blessings, see what God has done.” I cannot think of Thanksgiving without also thinking of God to whom we give thanks. Being thankful is very closely related with the worship of the living God. It is God who has made us, and not we ourselves. Life itself is a mystery, a gift, a short period of awareness for us that the philosophers try to understand and explain, or simply acknowledge and describe. Scientists can explain much, but they do not even come close to knowing what life is, where life came from, or what the purpose of life might be. That is best left to those who love and honor God. Without God, there is no life, and ultimately, no real purpose to life. I have recently heard explanations of how life began here on earth millions of years ago, possibly in a steam vent of heated water where it was creating some sort of electrical energy. This energy somehow infused in the atoms and molecules of the elements present and somehow, magically, the first life appeared in the ooze to become the basis for all life here on the planet. What hogwash!!! Those who cannot acknowledge God as the creator of the universe talk about the “birth” of the solar system, the universe, our home planet and our moon, possibly even pulled directly from earth some millions of years ago. As if earth got pregnant and had a baby. That is what birth really means, isn't it? There are many who do not acknowledge God, who “give thanks” to nature, the universe, or “mother earth” - as if they were alive. Very sad to me, as the living God who created everything and initiated life is ignored. We cannot really consider God as our creator unless we also give thought to our inherent relationship with Him. He put in us the desire to know Him and to do as He designed us to do. He made us to love one another, to do good, to "be fruitful and multiply." But we cannot do that in a way that is pleasing to Him unless we lift our hearts to Him, in love, and gratefully learn His ways. Please consider the one, true living God who made us, who loves us, who is really holding all of this together with the invisible forces that He created. Blessings, dear friends - rejoice and be thankful! Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Cor. 9:15 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess. 5:16-18

My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
