We Are At War - Against Spiritual Powers - Part 2By Paul Hayden September 22, 2025Spiritual War Last week I wrote that I believe we are in a war - against spiritual powers. Even understanding that we are in a “spiritual war” is in itself a spiritual exercise. This necessarily includes the important and necessary constraints of recognizing that we do not fight primarily against flesh and blood, but against evil spiritual realities. But there is conflict in any war, and sometimes it can get quite physical. This spiritual understanding is something that comes by faith, by trusting that Jesus meant what He said, that He said what He meant. In the beginning of the Book of John (in the Bible, New Testament), John was speaking of Jesus, his teacher, his Lord, his Master: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. (John 1.1-13) There is a difference between the spiritual “right,” or conservative world-view, and what I would call the social-political-mental “right-wing" conservative views. The differences would include just mentally accepting and adopting values that one “knows” are correct, versus having the spiritual values ingrained in oneself and then living out and sharing those values and thoughts with others. One who is “born of the Spirit," or “born of God,” is able to understand spiritual things, he is able to “see” and enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus spoke of this with one of the religious leaders of His time, Nicodemus, in John chapter 3, verses 3-7. "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." This is how I observe this astounding young man, Charlie Kirk. I may not be entirely correct. I believe that Charlie did so much of what he did from an overwhelming life-view belief that was first and foremost committed to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Was he perfect in it? Most likely, not. None of us are perfect. But I believe he was exceptional. Did he have flaws? Most assuredly, just as we all do. Some people ascribe almost super-powers to Charlie Kirk, lifting him up to almost super-human realms. I would suggest this is not likely what he wanted. He wanted to glorify God and Jesus. He knew that “we all fall short of the glory of God.” We should always be careful of exalting any person higher than we should, especially ourselves, in the light of God's glory. Like many, I was not very observant of Charlie Kirk until he was murdered. But in the short time since his death, very realistically a martyrdom, what he taught, how he lived, and what he stood for has come to light in ways the world has truly never seen before. Through the technology of the internet and computers, countless millions of people have seen and heard the truth of the Gospel message of God's love and redemption. Not only through Charlie himself, but during the memorial tribute service on Sunday (9/21/2025), some of the most powerful and influential people in the world boldly and openly proclaimed their Biblical faith for the world to see and hear. I for one am deeply encouraged in all of this. This is light shining in the darkness. There is hope, always.

My faith has grown through the years, but both in conjunction with the institutional church and through small groups and individuals, including books as well as group settings, where deep, sincere faith is shared that aligns with Biblical truth."
