Here Comes the Clown

No one expected much from Bumbling Joe Biden in the Veep debate. After his recent remark about how terribly the middle class has suffered over the last four years, some even speculated that the White House might cancel the faceoff to save the Obama campaign from more embarrassment. The only problem was that even if they had come up with some excuse (like instant onset laryngitis), the debate would have been rescheduled, and then Biden’s puppet-master, David Axelrod, would have had to start teaching Biden how to talk all over again.

But the debate came off as planned, and the White House’s resident clown disappointed everyone who was expecting a major “Bidenism.” (He has made so many gaffes that a new word has been added to our national vocabulary to celebrate his verbal oafishness.) This time he demonstrated his complete lack of common sense (and common courtesy) by constantly interrupting Paul Ryan and displaying a huge repertoire of peculiar behavior complete with wild gestures and insufferable body language.

These behaviors ranged from chortling, giggling, and rude sneers (reminiscent of Jack Nicholson in “The Shining”), to childish eye-rolling, vacillating to clownish facial expressions and onto anger and phony (and forced) laughter at inappropriate times. For instance, when Paul Ryan was discussing the deaths of four brave Americans in Libya, the Vice-President of the United States actually laughed!

As one blogger put it, “People who are confident that they have the facts on their side would not feel the need to act like the troublemaking kid at the back of the classroom throwing spitballs and being loud and rude while everyone else tried to get their work done and while the teacher tried to actually teach the kids something...”

A rather indisputable outcome of the Vice Presidential debate is that scores of people in both parties are praying that Obama doesn’t die before Mitt Romney is inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. Despite the appalling job Obama has done, the prospect of the class clown being the Commander-in-Chief even for a few months has been causing millions of Americans to lose sleep at night since the debate.

Ryan, conversely, not only came across as vice-presidential, but his command of the facts and their consequences portrayed him as downright presidential. After watching this debate, even the most liberal among us concluded that this is a man who could step up should he ever be called upon to succeed the president, and that he would lead the nation in a way that would give all Americans confidence.

Perhaps the most acutely troubling part of the debate happened when Biden answered (or rather evaded answering) the very first question, concerning the terror attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans (including our Ambassador, Christopher Stevens). As disconcerting as it was for Obama to refer to the attack as a “bump in the road,” Biden further trivialized it by lying about the pleas for additional security from our Embassy staff in Libya.  He then proceeded to blame the intelligence community for the deliberately false information Obama and his staff were pushing weeks after they had the real story. 

There has been much confusion and false information disseminated by Obama’s media arm (the mainstream press and major TV networks that elected him and want to re-elect him). Following is an accurate timeline of events. Check it out for yourself. A little research on the Web will make it clear that the Obama administration, and Obama himself, deliberately lied about this tragedy in order to save himself from disgrace just weeks before the election.

PRIOR TO THE ATTACK: First, a little background. The reason this is so important to the Obama campaign is that he has exactly one foreign policy accomplishment to his name to claim. Take that away, and he is lost. He and his minions have repeated time and time again, over and over this mantra: “Bin Laden is dead and al-Qaeda has been decimated.” The last time I checked, bin Laden was still dead (thanks to intelligence generated by Bush policies that Obama opposed), but al-Qaeda is still very much alive, and still murdering Americans, including Ambassador Stevens.

SEVEN MONTHS BEFORE, February 2012. The U.S. embassy in Libya is given a four-month extension (until August) of a Tripoli-based “site security team” composed of 16 special forces soldiers who provide security, medical and communications support to the embassy.

SIX MONTHS BEFORE, March 2012. State Department Regional Security Officer Eric Nordstrom cables the State Department asking for additional diplomatic security agents for Benghazi, but received no response. He re-sends his request in July, which is, once again, ignored.

FIVE MONTHS BEFORE, April 6, 2012. Two Libyans throw a bomb over the consulate fence in Benghazi. They were previously employed there as consulate security guards but had been fired.

FOUR MONTHS BEFORE, May 2, 2012. A Muslim terrorist attack on the Benghazi Red Cross office is followed by a warning on Facebook: “Now we are preparing a message for the Americans.” Another posting on the same page a month later, in an apparent threat against Ambassador Stevens, discusses his daily runs in Tripoli.

THREE MONTHS BEFORE, June 6, 2012. Unknown terrorists blow a hole in the Benghazi Consulate’s wall described as being “big enough for 40 men to go through.” Four days later the British ambassador’s car is attacked by Muslims using a rocket-propelled grenade. The ambassador survives.

LESS THAN A MONTH BEFORE, AUGUST 14, 2012. The 16-man security team is ordered out of Libya. Team leader Lt. Col. Andy Wood later testifies that Stevens wanted them to remain in Libya.

THE WEEK BEFORE, September 8, 2012. Left with only one armed State Department security man and unarmed Libyan “security” contractors, the consulate is forced to depend on four local militiamen, who are not security professionals. The security guards reportedly received warnings of an attack in the near future. The militia warns U.S. diplomats that the security picture is “frightening.”

DAY BEFORE, September 10, 2012. Al-Qaeda's leader, Ayman al Zawahiri, released a video that served as a global call to arms to al-Qaeda members to exact revenge for the death of Abu Yahya al Libi, one of al-Qaeda's top officials.

DAY ONE, September 11, 1012. The next day, as everyone should have expected, al-Qaeda members unleashed chaos across North Africa and the Middle East in sophisticated attacks that had nothing to do with an anti-Islam video and were coordinated and planned months in advance.  Thomas Joscelyn, terrorism analyst and a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, noted that the "demonstrators at a U.S. embassy protest in Cairo chanted, “Obama! Obama! We are all Osama!” Al-Qaeda admits that it planned the attacks well in advance of the release of the short anti-Islamic video that Obama blames for the terrorism.

Within hours after the murder of Ambassador Stevens the Obama administration was informed of what everyone else would unequivocally see as fact – that the incident was a terrorist attack. But Obama and company proceeded to deliberately mislead the American public, claiming for weeks that it was a “spontaneous protest” instead of a carefully planned terror attack, and that the “protest” was in response to an obscure video that none of the attackers had ever seen. Why the lies? We’ll explain more later.

Anyone with a modicum of  brainpower would be expecting and preparing for possible terrorist attacks anywhere in the Middle East. In fact, the head of Ambassador Stevens’ security detail had been pleading for months for Marines to supplement his meager resources. By now, we’ve learned as well that in Ambassador Stevens’ journal this brave American expressed fear of just such an attack. But while these urgent pleas for help were ignored by Obama’s State Department, State Department personnel in Vienna, Austria were celebrating several new additions to their own “security” department in the form of a motor pool of Obama Chevy Volts and a $108,000 facility to charge them.

What does this say about Obama’s priorities? I spoke in a church in Vienna recently, and I can testify that there were no terrorist attacks while I was there. But I am sure the impressive fleet of Chevy Volts will prove to be of great assistance to the armed personnel at our U.S. Embassy in Vienna, should there be such an attack.

Moreover, within a week of authorizing the charging station in Vienna, the State Department also denied requests from Ambassador Stevens’ staff for enhanced security. This is presumably because Vienna is a much safer place than war-torn Libya, where there have been 230 security incidents between June, 2011 and July, 2012, 48 of which took place in Benghazi where the four Americans were murdered in a planned terrorist attack.

DAY TWO, September 12. Obama leaves for yet another fundraiser, this time in Las Vegas. Spokesman David Axelrod refuses to say whether Obama had met with his National Security Council before leaving (which is the same as admitting that he had not). No president worth the title would have left the White House under such circumstances for anything less than a major national emergency. But for the apathetic Obama, the day after the first incident of a U.S. Ambassador having been killed in over 30 years, was just another day on the campaign trail.

The media widely reports that Stevens and three others were killed in an attack by well-armed terrorists. Obama does release a statement denouncing the “outrageous and shocking attack” but doesn’t mention the video, and refuses to call it an act of terrorism.

DAY THREE, September 13.  The White House’s spin machine goes into damage control mode and has finally decided how to use the incident without impacting Obama’s campaign. White House spokesman Jay Carney says “the protests we’re seeing around the region are in reaction to this terrible movie.” An “investigation” is announced, and the press and public are asked to withhold judgment until it is complete (which, of course, will not happen until after the election).

DAY FOUR, September 14. The president of Libya, Mohamed Magarief, contradicts the White House account. He says his nation’s investigators are certain, based on fragments of mortars and RPG’s (rocket-propelled grenades) that the attack was “pre-planned.” He also states in his interview with Ann Curry that the anti-Muslim video had “…nothing to do with it.” Curry being an extreme liberal kept pressing with questions designed to support the Obama narrative. I am loathe to accept the word of an Arab intelligence agency, but at this point the rapid response FBI team that was supposed to “secure the crime scene” and investigate the attack has not arrived. The area was deemed by Obama’s State Department to be “too dangerous” for the men of the best trained and best armed police force in the world; yet it was acceptable to them for our ambassador to go there a few days earlier without a proper security detail.

Nevertheless, on the same day, Hillary Clinton used the Ambassador’s body, and those of the three men who died with him, to propagate what she knew to be a false narrative. Standing beside the coffin of Stevens, whom she claimed was a friend, she repeated the lie that a short YouTube video trailer of an amateur movie that no one can locate, was the real reason he died.

DAY SIX, September 16. UN Ambassador Susan Rice invites herself to no less than five interviews on Sunday talk shows. She states categorically and with great confidence that a large mob outside the Benghazi facility got out of hand and “spontaneously” attacked and killed the American Ambassador and three others “…in response to a hateful video.” Shockingly, she claims “this attack was not an expression of hostility towards the United States,” and had nothing to do with our policies in the region. By this time it was common knowledge that there had been no protest, and that the attack was “carried out with military precision using heavy weapons” as verified by Michael Hayden, a career intelligence officer and retired U.S. Air Force general. Chris Wallace on FOX News challenged her: “You don’t really believe that, do you, Susan?” Rice said, “Of course, I absolutely do.”

DAY NINE, September 19. Matthew Olsen, Director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center, stated on national television, “Yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack.”

DAY TEN, September 20. Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary speaking aboard Air Force One: “It is self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack.” This is the first time any Obama spokesman has admitted the truth.

DAY SIXTEEN, September 26. Obama speaks at the UN in New York. He mentions the video 6 times, al-Qaeda only once.

DAY TWENTY-ONE, October 2. The FBI investigators finally arrive in Benghazi. They accomplish little, because the crime scene has been completely compromised for weeks.

DAY TWENTY-EIGHT, October 8. Incredibly, VP Joe Biden – like his boss - is still blaming George Bush and the GOP for literally everything. In this case he claims during the debate that embassy security in Libya was compromised by Republicans “slashing the budget” for embassy security worldwide. In fact, although security funds were not increased as much as the State Department had requested, the GOP had agreed to a 20% increase. But, as Biden well knows, the amount of money was not the issue here – the allocation of resources was.

Most of the “security” for our diplomatic mission was provided by unarmed Libyan contractors who were paid $4 per hour. Repeated desperate cries for help from the head of security in Libya were ignored, while the State Department spent millions on security at embassies that the Obama administration considers important (like the one in peaceful Vienna). These embassies have U.S. armed and trained personnel and U.S. Marine contingents.

What has happened here? Aside from the obvious fact that the Obama administration ignored all the warning signs and failed to provide the kind of security that would have saved Ambassador Stevens’ life, what about the aftermath?

One of two things happened. Either (1) This is the most incompetent presidential administration in history, which chose to ignore the facts presented to them by the intelligence community. The facts showed clearly (within 24 hours by the most generous accounts) that al-Qaeda terrorists, not an amateur video, had killed our people. Or (2) The Obama administration engaged in a huge cover-up to save his political career. After all, he had told us repeatedly that “bin Laden was dead and al-Qaeda was decimated.” That oft-repeated statement has been the ongoing centerpiece of his campaign.

Which is true? Is Obama incompetent, or is he a liar? One is reminded of the old joke about the lawyer and a politician falling off the Empire State Building at the same time. “Which one hits the ground first?” The answer is, “Who cares?”

Who cares whether Obama is incompetent or a liar (or both)? Clearly, the nation cannot survive four more “Obama” years. Should he be re-elected, we face the grim reality of ending up being part of the United States of Islam.
