WHICH Obamacare?August 19, 2013Today the news media is all abuzz about the Socialist Obamacare plan that is poised to drive the final nail in the coffin of the U.S. economy. This prompts me to wonder WHICH Obamacare all the fuss is about. 1) Is it the Obamacare that Barrack Hussein Obama first promised us? 2) Is it the 2,700 page law hastily passed in the dead of night? 3) Is it the 18,000 pages of bureaucratic rule and regulations that have been penned in addition to the 2,700 page law?
4) Is it the estimated 100,000 pages of laws and regulations that will eventually be written as this abomination metastasizes throughout our economic body? Obamacare is not (2), the 2,700 page law. Remember Nancy Pelosi’s famous statement? “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Well, we never did find out, and we probably never will. It is – as one economics professor termed it – a “Moving target.” If you keep up with these things, you know that it is constantly changing. Certainly it's not (3), the 18,000 pages of bureaucratic regulations that have been written – so far – without Congressional review. (These are pictured in the photo above.) Obamacare is a cancer that keeps spreading as more and more new bureaucracies are created, and as each of them writes their own rules and regulations. It’s not even (4), the 100,000 pages that are estimated to be the total that will be used to administer this monstrosity. By contrast, the IRS Code – which even the IRS acknowledges that no individual can ever fully understand – is 71,684 pages long. Let me stop at this point and propose an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. “Congress shall pass no Act that is longer than the United States Constitution.” As it was originally written, the U.S. Constitution consisted of 4,618 words (including signatures) in seven articles. Some of the articles are just a paragraph or two, but let’s be generous and say that the Constitution is 7 pages long. If 7 pages have served adequately to govern us for over two centuries, then Congress must adhere to laws limiting articles to a maximum of 7 pages! How about version(5) of Obamacare in which Obama personally changes the law upon his personal whims and wishes, or according to which way the political winds are blowing, or perhaps which political cronies he wants to exempt from his own law? As offensive (and illegal and unconstitutional) as it is for a president to change a law duly passed by Congress and signed by himself into law, even that’s not the real Obamacare. So, will the REAL Obamacare please stand up? You guessed it. It is (6): The unknown and unknowable monster that will destroy the finest health care system the world has ever seen if it is not repealed. At this point we can liken Obamacare to a cancer that has taken over one organ of the body, but is in the process of metastasizing. (In the human body, this is the process by which malignant cancer cells spread throughout the entire body, eventually resulting in a state for which there is no medical hope.) Right now the cancer of Obamacare primarily impacts one of our systems – the health care system. Before Obamacare we had a diverse decentralized health care system that was the envy of the world. Because it was entrepreneurial in nature our nation has produced more innovations (treatments, drugs, preventative programs) than all the other nations of the world combined. As reprehensible as it is to contemplate the ruination of that system, Obamacare will destroy far more than our health care system. Its tendrils will ultimately reach into every segment of our society. It has already compromised religious freedom by forcing Christians to violate their beliefs by performing abortions, or face terrible consequences. It will also impact the economy. Higher medical costs will further stress an already weak economy. Millions of jobs will be lost, and tens of millions of full-time jobs will be reduced to part-time to avoid Obamacare taxes. Freedom will suffer, as unconstitutional requirements are put into effect that will force you to buy something you do not want, and tell you which doctor or hospital you can use. Death will win. As amazing as it may seem that a law about health care will result in more deaths, it is true. We will see a sharp increase in the number of babies killed in their mother’s wombs. And ultimately, as rationing is phased in, we will see more seniors die. “You have breast cancer? Let’s see, you’re 75. Your life expectancy is not that long, anyway. We have limited resources, and there are younger women who need surgery more. I’m sure you understand.” No part of our national fabric will remain unstained. Educators will be forced to indoctrinate our kids to accommodate the system. Commerce will be limited. “If you want to drive an unsafe sports car, we won’t insure you. Try a hybrid ‘green’ car.” Career choices, your diet, whether you have the choice of natural alternatives to drugs and surgery, practically everything about our lives will be directed by Obamacare. Ultimately, Obamacare is not about health care. It is about control. Socialists like Obama really believe that the collective wisdom of government is far superior to your wisdom. Big Brother knows best. And how better to make sure that all of us comply with what government knows is best for us than to control every aspect of our lives – for our own good, of course. Obamacare goes a long, long way towards helping them achieve that goal.
